I use the ... between because that keeps my phone keyboard from switching back to alpha between numbers. I do it in that order because the first two are done in the car, and the last three are done while standing at the pump.

my last one was

42566...361.0...3.899...11.314...44.11

I used to do only totalmileage gallons and pricepergallon but found the currenttankmileage and total price as a good checksum in case I fat finger something.

A lot of folks use Fuelly.com for it, but I just never could get around to it. My method is simple and I can move it into a spreadsheet once or twice a month when I have a few minutes.

For anyone interested the history can be seen in the first post here or follow the link in my sig.
I'm a CPA, and even I am not that anal retentive.

I'm not either really. I own 5 cars and this is the only one I do this with, primarily because I started when it was new and i'm the only one that ever puts fuel in it.

Gas mileage over time does tell a story though. It's like regularly checking your blood pressure. A sudden change could be an indication of an issue.

Bought it with 55 mi on it and now have 7200 miles......I'm making my second payment in 3 days. Hahaha I live in Louisville, KY but I drive to Nashville like every other weekend literally. Plus I just drove to Atlanta from Louisville and I drive about 85 mi (there and back) to work 5 days a week every other week. Whew Lot of driving! But I smile every second of the way

5000 after the first month. But that included 2 trips and accelerated break-in. The enjoyment of this car for me has almost nothing to do with the engine. It's all from the Porsche-like steering, handling, and ride. Its fun even just tooling around, like a Miata, which was a big surprise.
