Budget is always a priority in my book as that is part of the game
But in actuality we would and do use the Motul Gear 300 75w90 for both the trans and rear diffys in the Subarus and the BRZ/FRS. The LS we used in my CTS-V rear Diffy because it had a mechanical rear LS as well as in other applications where there is a mechanical LS Diffy. -Mike Paisan 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. As a followup, if they decide to put one of the mechanical rear diffys in the car next year, then the recommendation would change completely for obvious reasons.

Engine Tranny and Diff, Motul 300v 0w20 and Motul Gear 300 75w90 yesterday after break in period. Shifting much smoother in the cold now. Thanks for the advise Hanakuso and AZP Installs.

Yes. Those gaps in the bushings are specifily to reduce noise and vibration. By filling those gaps, and using a material with a higher durometer you are making it easier for vibrations from the diff to transfer to the body. As you add more and more hardened/poly bushings, you'll get more Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) in the cabin. |

I known this is a dead thread, but I just hit 1000 miles and put Red line MT90 in my MT, just because I've always changed out fluids on all my vehicles after the break in period. I used to own a Jeep Wrangler and Redline works very well with them, so I figured why not. Well gears 1-3 are very grindy now. I've ordered Motul and will post the results. The MT90 was very thin and after reading the label it states it can be used as engine oil 10w- 40, wtf?
Update: I put the Motul in yesterday, and it's much easier to shift now compared to OEM and Redline. Last edited by IronDuke; 03-15-2016 at 10:37 AM. |

The viscosity ratings on gear oil aren't the same as those for engine motor oil. You are correct that the 75w-90 wt for gear oil is roughly equivalent to 10w40 motor oil. I used MT90 on my son's Mazda3 and it works great. I tried Motul on this car and found it to be pretty notchy, especially in the mornings. I've since tried a 50/50 blend of Motul and Royal Purple Synchromax and this is the best formula so far. I've gone through the winter and also gotten it up to track temperatures and overall, it is the best. YMMV. |

I have about 10,000 miles on my frs and looking to change the transmission fluid. Would you guys recommend doing a full flush or just a simple drain and fill?
