So far I have no issues with mine but for the price this piece is probably worth it as a cautionary measure.

You can just reach down under the plate with a paper towel and wipe to check. It certainly seems to be fairly prevalent, however I have a pretty early 2013 model and after 23k miles, there is still no leak on the stock part.

Weird. My BRZ has nearly 40,000 miles and not a single drop of oil from this plate.

Question about the dabs of permatex...should they be squarely on the mating surface or slightly toward the center (slightly overhanging such that some of it, when mated, will go into the inside?). I find in @Dezoris video, his was squarely on the mating surface, pretty tidy and on @FT-86 SpeedFactory's video it was more toward the inside (particularly top dap). Planning on installing tomorrow afternoon Thanks!

Edit: I guess ultimately, is there such a thing as too much permatex in this situation? I typically go a bit more in these type of situations.. @Raceseng would love your opinion on this!

You will see on the mating surface there is seam at the top and bottom thats what you are putting the permatex on. Follow the instructions from raceeng and let cure overnight with car cooled off and you should be golden.

Just installed - found that o-ring kept on wanting to pop out, first time it moved out of slot before I finished putting rest of bolts on, 2nd time around seemed like it stayed out. Anyone else experience this?

Edit: also, how important is it to be exact with the torque? I found that 12 lb came up quite suddenly and it didn't have any additional movement to 14lb when I came back to tighten.

I was able to get the extra two lbs after 45mins as per instruction. However 2lbs is not anything to worry over chances are your TQ wrench could be not perfect calibration so if all are equal and tight enough leave it IMO.

As far as dabs of RTV go I got a fair bit inside the lip to, doing it from top not so easy to see/feel on the amount accurately but given you just need to cover the seperation point of where O ring meets I can not see any amount RTV being inside an issue either. My stock one started to seep and there was a ton more of RTV sealant near inside bore then I expected to see...so should be fine anyhow.

My car was a May 2013 with 9k miles on it for record.

You can be generous with the Permatex, no worries!

It looks like some of my photos aren't showing up in my first post anymore. I'll try to edit my original post or re-upload them in the next day or so.
