Cole, New2, what do you guys want to talk about?
Saw around 15 deer on my one hour commute to site this morning. Made for an interesting drive in combination with the freezing rain and -2 or 3 weather.

I missed a turn because apparently 30 was too fast to brake 400m before the turn and I just kept sliding for about 100m after the turn.

Good day so far.

I thought you were done work. Where were there that many deer? That is a shitload of them in an hour.

Not yet. New finish date is 15ish December. My boss called me today and I complained to him about his promise of "only ond month out West" has now turned into 2.5 and is quickly moving towards 3.

My drive was from Edson, Ab out near Rosevear, but where I actually was doesn't really have a name.

Man, you are really up there.

Why is the schedule getting pushed out so far? One big thing, or lots of little things?

Big thing was taking on an additional job from our client, who basically said "By the way, you have 30 days to finish this". So, that pushed every other project back by thirty days.

We're currently fighting with the weather. Frozen ground means no work, so it's a huge rush to finish before everything freezes. But, it's not exactly looking great at the moment. I'm not too concerned in the grand scheme of things though. If I'm done after my upcoming days off next week, that means I'll take from the 5th to the 8th or 9th to do the drive home and start my vacation on the 9th. If I work here until the 15th, that means I get home around the 19th, and have a few extra thousand bucks of OT pay in my pockets. The girlfriend really wants me at home, so that's kind of pushing me to hope that I'm done sooner rather than later.

Maybe it's grass-is-greener syndrome but I've always been a little envious of your work. I miss working outdoors, working with my hands, even in a shitty environment.

I've literally softened.

It really wasn't great a few days ago when it was -35 out. As long as it's warmer than like -20, I'm good. But anything over that is hard to be out in for 8 or 10 hours a day.

It's also kind of lame how short the days are. We aren't really getting daylight until 8am or so, and then the sun starts to set around 4:30pm. In the past 2 weeks, I've finished work in the pitch black 3 times. Not exactly ideal when you need to trudge through around a foot of snow, which is difficult enough in daylight.

The good news is that the clock is ticking down until the finish line, and really, thinking about it, if I need to stick around here until the 15th, that's only 16 work days.

The job I have is a long, tough slog for nine or ten months of the year. At this point, I'm pretty beat up physically and mentally. Today, for example, I had to walk in about 800 meters to redo some work that was done a couple of days ago, since the office wanted some additional things done. At around 600m in, my calves were burning. Dunno if that's because my body is just super tired, or if my cold weather boots aren't the best for walking longer distances at a normal pace or a combination of both factors. I am a bit of an out of shape piece of shit right now, but normally a walk like that is a piece of cake.

Ah well, gonna be a nice few months off. Likely going to start going to the gym a 5 or 6 times per week, and see if I can join up to play some beer league hockey. Also probably going to spend quite a bit of time exploring Toronto, especially since I want to actually use the damn DSLR I bought early on this year and I figure wandering around a big city is a good place to practice shooting.
