BTW, wtf is a "z240"? I had a 240Z (from 1992 until just a couple of weeks ago), is this similar? That car has had no real successor as far as I'm concerned, but cars that came closest were: RX-7, S13 240SX, S2000, and now the FT86 The latest Z's aren't successors to the 240Z as much as they are 2-seat versions of bloated luxury sedans |

I had a '90 RX-7, and I LOVED it. Except that I never got better than 22mpg. When it blew apex seals at an autoX event (the only hard driving it had ever seen in its 103,000-mile perfectly maintained life), I replaced it with a '95 Z28 6-speed. Which was immensely faster and got as much as 28 mpg on the highway despite weighing 500-600 lb. more. The Z28 made great noises, but I liked the RX7 a lot better... ffwd to now: 1994 RX-7 with a lightly modded LS2 engine = 129+ in the 1/4, and 29mpg on the highway. BLISS... |

The RX8 outsold the FC RX-7 making it the best selling Rotary car ever(by generation). I think what Mazda did by moving to a entry level luxury sedan while offering sports car performance was a good one. For a time the RX8 was compared to big name luxury/sports car companies like BMW or Audi.

This thread is stuffed to the brim with some of the most elitist garbage i've seen in a car forum about a car that isn't even for sale yet...

Based on the above, its total should be 200,000-220,000, however, some reports put RX-8 production at 186,632. It's possible that the attached chart has wrong information for 2007 and 2008. Technically, the 1st gen RX7 was initially referred to as SA (it became known as FB in N. America in 1981).

Has Mazda ever produced a RWD coupe with a conventional non-roraty engine?
I think the rx8 would have sold more if it had a 2.0L turbo engine. |
