how often did you hear the clunk before the strut was changed? was it a knock or a clunk?

I was hearing it for almost a month. My bet was that it failed right around 1500 miles.

As far as being a knock or a clunk, probably more of a knock. If your suspension is noisy, I would take it in. It really shouldn't be at all. Now that I know that, it will go in much sooner if it ever happens again. Even the contents of the trunk on on foam, so they shouldn't be making noise.

I should re-phrase, did you hear it all the time or was it just once a day thing?

Only over certain bumps. Freeways it was non-existent, even on bumps. You wont' hear it all the time. On smoother roads, I would never hear it.

If its shot, you will hear it. I could hear it even with the radio up pretty loudly. It would knock here and there on pretty much every drive. Hope that's a little better. It was frequent, but not something you would notice taking a quick drive around the block.

Like I mentioned above, your suspension should be 100% quiet no matter what you hit. If it's not, I would take it in. You shouldn't ever really hear any sort of clunks or knocks.

I'd suspect that you'd need a movement (think fast and high amplitude) that would require heavy damping before you'd hear the clunk. The clunk (i think) is the sound of the spring unloading without damping and the internals of the strut hitting their limits hard.

Damn . I am lucky to have a good service department. I always just ask for them not to wash it. How many miles on your car?

And on a side note, it is SO NICE! To have a quiet car again with no knocking!!

Mine does the clunk and the noise after 10-15 minutes of spirited driving. Had it checked by Toyota techs and nothing. they said everything is ok. WTF!

I too am starting to experience this issue. I have a little over 1K miles on my FRS, and have heard this clunk in the rear drivers side a couple times during this week. I hear it mainly when I make a left turn after the car has sat overnight. At the end of the day I don't hear it at all, maybe because the strut has warmed up after driving? I don't see any leaks from the strut when I looked at it today. Lets see what service has to say about this.

Sounds very much like mine. After parking the car for a while, the first few left turns in the parking lot causes the clunk noise in the rear on the driver side. But mine definitely is not the suspension because when I fold the rear seat down, it doesn't make this noise. Maybe yours is the same too. I'm too lazy to hunt for this noise though...

Thats interesting. I am going to try to see if I hear it with the back seat down. Its very random and doesn't make the clunk noise every single time, which makes it hard to pin point it out.
