Statistically you are correct. From a practical standpoint, I'm not sure how much the difference matters. Real example, I went from driving a daily driver that averaged 18MPG to the FRS averaging 32.6MPG over 66000 miles. I happened to be tracking the difference in cost. I have saved an average of $119 a month over 41 months in fuel costs. At the same time, I've had to purchase and maintain a second vehicle for those times when I needed a truck, which is once or twice a week. In my case its a net loss. Again, statistically I can't argue with that, and I've been riding for 30 years, had my own set of scares (and a couple of scars). The DOT says the fatality rate per mile driven is about 26x that of cars. What it also shows is that 26% of those are unlicensed drivers, and another large percentage were not wearing adequate protective clothing, including helmets. The real issue with motorcycles is, even more so then cars, the required training to get a license is non-existent in the US. In some states you can literally purchase a bike with no driver's license and no training, tow it to the DMV (or drive it) take a very simple skills and written test, and get a license to kill yourself. Some states, like Georgia, at least encourage you to take training by waiving the DMV test if you take an approved multi-week training course. In this case, you are most likely only endangering yourself, so I have mixed emotions on it. But, if one of my sons wanted to get a bike, it would be my recommendation they take at least 3 levels of training before they ever get on the road.

Motorcycles are fine after you've put your kids through college. Before then, they're just selfish.

For $700 I can rent a half-ton truck for 35 day trips, about 9 years of quarterly use, and not have to store or insure a trailer. You're right, though, I had to jump up into the bed to shovel one load of rocks instead of dumping the same amount from several loads in a waist high utility trailer without brakes. I decided to sell my FJ Cruiser that I use mostly for off-road photo safari trips to Western ghost towns and instead rent a new issue pickup to abuse instead. Gotta love the full coverage AMEX insurance that includes loss of use for the rental company in case I have to abandon ship in the Alvord Desert. |

Yup, there's always renting. Or having it delivered.

So far I'm getting 21MPG and my gas is costing me 1.69 a gallon because it runs on both gas and CNG. So basically I'm getting 42MPG if it was normal gas prices. The F-150 has crazy power steering it's easier to drive than just about anything.

As a follow up to my earlier posts, i was almost run off the road twice by lifted trucks yesterday, who decided at the last minute they were going to fly by and try to beat the merge onto the interstate. I swear to god, they look at the FRS and all they see is someone somehow challenging their manhood. I'M NOT A RACECAR STOPPIT. |

All this hate on trucks.... I don't understand, I have my FRS for fun drives/autocross, and a 2011 Tundra Platinum for everything else. It rides better than most cars, has more power, is fully loaded, can fit 4 full size adults extremely comfortably with room to spare. That and can still tow/pick up most anything I would ever need. That and I never have a problem keeping it between the lines.
There are horrible drivers of every type of vehicle out there.

if you lived in california you'd have to pay extra on your annual registration renewal which depending on how new your truck is, will be up to $1000
