Hey, if photography was easy as Martial Arts, I would already be expert at it. 2/3 of my life have been doing some kind of Martial Arts, it's more like reflex to me... vs photograph need some tips & tricks, experience & dab of talent. Experience part I can do something bout... but tips & tricks, & dab of talent is totally different story.

You definitely have to think out of the box when you take pictures. Whether the outcome is as expected or not, don't hesitate doing it. You will get it right if you learn from your mistake. I can't give you any specific tips and tricks since I'm not pro, or a good photographer. I'm just a so so one.

Hi, I guess when I started out the first thing I did was to find out what is a good photo and why. Why do I instantly like some photos and not others?
It turns out that it is a combination of things.

Light, colour, composition, subject, technique.
Go and look at some award winning photos of your subject of choice,
eg motorsport. For me I like to give the impression of speed or great lighting for static images or get that one off shot. For me, thats what makes it special.

Practice panning on manual mode on your camera, master it.......
Tips to do this..... Big aperture ..... F16, F18 ... Slow shutter 30th, 40th sec, say 200 iso.... adjust aperture to suit lighting conditions... match panning speed with car... see how you go..

Cheers

Neil.

That reminds me of my first panning attempt. I've got something like this:

Lesson learned? Go early and find a nice spot where you can shoot without having to force your way through people, nor being bounced around. I didn't.

Btw, very nice pictures in this thread!

I've been doing photography as a hobby for over 3 years now.

I started in high school in the 90's, then did some other stuff, and now I'm back.

Since I've started back up, I've been fortunate to have some published journalistic work in Glamour (online, per my wife), other things on design blogs and websites and have done some other gratis professional/commercial stuff as well.

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/in-y...-it-wit-112025

http://foureyesfurniture.com/home.html (my friend's furniture co.)

I'll photograph anything, from cars to people to chairs, and I'm really comfortable just taking the shots I want to take, but really this is just a hobby and I have tons more to learn.

So far I've only been using my Canon XSi/450d. 18-55 kit lens and 50 1.8. That's it. I'd love a 5D mk2 but I definitely don't need it.

I think once I get my Sigma 30mm 1.4 and maybe a flash, I'll be good for a long time.

I retook photography because I got burnt out playing music and needed another creative outlet. Plus it's great having a little better quality family photos. But now I'm getting burnt out on photography and so the pendulum swings again...

Hmm... they suck man.

Naaaah... I'm just kidding. Okay first off if your happy with it then its all good right?

Anyways I'll begin from the 1st photo to the last. Also did you edit before posting or are these the actual shots you took at first hand?

1. I don't have problem with it if that's the angle you were going for. Only thing I do from there is do some simple editing cause to me its too bright and the colors could use some fixing.

2. That's good, but I wish the car was parked directly in front of those mountains in the background. That would have set a nice background. Other than that just some simple photo editing to sharpen the car and its good.

3. It would have probably been best to take the picture a few steps back so you could have included the rest of your ride in frame of the picture. BTW your Sube's paint looks good, man.

4. Once again simple photo editing. Need to be brightened up imo and if possible try to take another approach from another angle to get better coverage of the flower to limit the leaves from appearing in the photo.

Nice job and keep it in mind that everyone has to start off from the beginning at some point and I'm not an expert or a pro too so I'm always looking for help too. And your photos prove you really take care of your car.
If you don't mind, could I do some photo editing on the ones I can do to show you some of my preferences. Its cool if you don't want me to and just say fuck off, haha, no really its okay.

Ichi I'll send you a pm with the feedback.

But for now (since I'm in class) I'll just give you a few tips.

1. Wash those cars so you get better lines and reflective lights going
2. Zoom out. The photos look wayyy too full when you fit the entire car in your photo.
3. For the flower photo increase the shutter speed by 1 so the hard light from the back of the flower isn't so overly exposed.
4. Aperature seems to be in a good spot right now (can't really tell too much from this oldish laptop).

That's all I can give for you right now. When I get home I'll give you a much more 'harsh' and specific advice. Lol
