I'm not sure on the WRX but on my last Mazdaspeed3 the hatches are more structurally sound and rigid, lighter too.

Before Impreza WRX it was the Leone RX.

The hatch was a 2-door Leone RX-II.

By the 90's the Impreza WRX both 4 dr. sedan and hatch.

What now? The Mazdaspeed3 is/was only available as a hatchback. What are you comparing it to?

Back in the day probably homologation for Gr.A rally. Now probably homologation for SP3T.

I wasn't a fan of the hatch way back when. Now, I don't like the new sedans. The family car...they keep drifting further and further from rally and amazing cars, imo.

I do like the hatches now, but idk if I'd buy one. I'd rather get an 04-07 sti or a coupe sti swap.

The want for a STI hatch is so funny because I remember when 2008 came around and almsot everybody thought the hatch was disgusting and the car needed to be a sedan and have the big wing to be a "Real STI". Now there's no hatch, and people complain the hatch was the best. People just like to complain I think.

Hatch only was 08-10. Sedan came back in 2011 and was offered side by side with hatch until 2014. 15+ is sedan only.

I think that my STI will be the last Subaru I own, given the direction Subaru seems to be heading with a lot of their vehicles now. In fact, mine is almost back to stock, so I give it a few months before it's gone.

@Tyler

I agree. I told my friend to buy a 2015 wrx over and older used 2011 sti. Hot damn was that a bad choice. So sad to see Subaru going the family economy sedan car with some boost. Idk if it's his car or driving but tuned brz with bolt ons beats his wrx, haha. From a roll of course. launch = spin for me. Probably his driving though since I beat him when I drove his wrx haha.

I remember the hate for the hatch back in the day. I was anti hatch too. Now it's whatever...the car has gotten worse since 07 imo.

I just could have swore it was hatch only from 08-11 but I guess it's sti specific, didn't include the wrx?

Correct

WRX Hatch: 2008-2010
WRX Sedan: 2008-2010
STI Hatch: 2008-2010

Then the facelift came in 2011 and the WRX AND STI were both offered in Sedan and Hatchback

They were both on FF movies, but the hatchback had the more dramatic scene , Paul Walker drove it in the mountain canyon ( beginning of movie #6 or #7...I forget)

This is what I remember too, for rally racing the hatch was stronger and lighter but I don’t know if that was true for certain.

What TylerLieberman said rings true. I’m still not a hatchback fan but I remember thinking how much I hated the hatch and thought they failed by not making a sedan. Now the old hatch is a favorite over the new sedans.

This:

Some are really nice, like the one pictured above, but I loved the 1999-07 (minus bugeyes, sorry) bodies far more than 08 onwards. I've grown to like the hatches a little, but used to hate them out of spite for going the 206 route to try to win, lol.
