Do basic upgrades for the track.

Than spend all the rest on track time!

Questions:

1) what track?
2) what is a "fast track car"?
3) horsepower, or some NA mods + lightweight chassis?

Whenever my warranty runs out and I pick up another daily driver, I'm going to do some NA mods to get 200-210RWHP, and gut the car and put it on an extreme diet. Will basically try to replicate the TRD Griffon on the BRZ.

That, to me, is a fast car. Maybe not the fastest at Big Willow, but for some other tracks it'll be stupid fast.

Unless you're thinking of something extremely cheap to buy, mod and maintain (Miata), it'd be a silly idea, I think.

Let's be honest, the FR-S is a terrible commuter. It's rather noisy, only seats two real adults, has limited cargo space, and is not fun at all on the freeway. Any modern hot hatch is so much better as a DD. If you could afford two cars, it's the FR-S you should turn into the weekend/track toy.

Exactly. My FRS will become that when I have a FT1 in my garage for now I will enjoy it as it's still a great overall car.

If you're going to take tracking/autoxing seriously start with the cheapest car you can be competitive in. More expensive cars just mean more expensive to get around the track. I'd go all in on an NA Miata if it was me and with spec miata there's competitive wheel to wheel racing all over the country.

I've got a 240sx as a "track car" currently has an sr20det in it. Working on an ls1 swap. To be honest if I could go back I would have sold my 240's, I have a couple, never bought the ls1, and dumped all that money into my frs. It kind of sucks spending all that time and money on a "track car" that you hardly get to drive. I'd much rather a car that I could drive everyday. Now I'm kind of stuck with a project that I have to finish. If I would've just gotten my frs on the same level as my 240 I would've been a happy camper. It all depends on the person though. That's just how I feel about it.

Yea I might just ending up doing this in the end. I plan on competing at hpde's with the FRS starting next month, and then when I get really good spec miata looks like a really fun time. I've seen some races on youtube and that looks intense!

stay slow on the frs and buy a cheap rebuildable beater for track because something will always break
