OK, so here is a little update. I am took my car in for the leak, they pulled the plate resealed it called it good, still leaks. Took it back, they say that it turns out it's not the plate but part of the valve cover leaking.(Toyota rep was there, guess they thought they should really look at it) So now I'm on day two of waiting to get my car back because they didn't have the seals to put it back together..... Anyway, if you car is still leaking have them look at the valve covers too, it runs down that plate and look like the oil is coming from it.

You can see the plate on the left, just to the right of it there is a small square-ish piece that goes with the valve cover(it has the black sealant around it) that's what they re-sealed. When I get home and have a chance I'll highlight the piece.

I totally agree with the fix for this problem as shown in @Cade01 picture above. Mine was sealed up twice (plate only) and still leaked. The leak is definately coming from the bottom seam of that housing shown and NOT the plate itself. It runs along the bottom and collects at the plate before dripping onto the hot exhaust. Mine has been sealed a 3rd time, but this time the housing was done too. Problem fixed!!

Pic 1: Here is what is behind the plate. although the sealant along that bottom seam looks good. It isn't!

Pic 2: The plate.

Pic 3: The amount of oil that come out after a normal days driving.

@Raceseng. The stock plate is actually fine, but what they should have done is fitted a cap or something over that centre hole.

Normally on the auto models, the pump shaft fits in there and is driven off the camshaft. If you made something to seal that off, then that might be simpler and very effective IMO.

Mine hasn't leaked again since it was done this way as well. Just curious @Tech did the dealership do yours? There was a Toyota Tech. Rep. in the day I took my car in and he was going over my car with them(actually it was his call to keep it overnight for a better look) I would like to think that I was able to help get the word to Toyota about this by not just letting it go, he said my car was the first Toyota had heard about it and if they could find a fix it might help other with the same problem.

Are you saying that there is a seam inside the housing where that stream of oil is in your Pic #1? And you applied sealant where? To the inside or the outside? Outside, right?

Just want to be clear.

Thanks.

Look at the picture I posted 5 posts above yours. I circled the part that needs to be removed and sealed, you can even see the sealant the dealership put on it.

@Cade01 Yes the dealership did mine, but the tech that did it originally has bought one of these cars recently and we have become friends, so he suggested that the problem was not the plate, but that housing in your picture. Turns out he was right. He actually did the last repair in his own time at my place. Part of the trick also it to put on the sealant and only finger tight the bolts. He then left the sealant to cure for about an hour so that is became more rubberised before he torqued down to bolts. I think the main problem in the factory is because they tighten up the bolts staight away and the sealant just gets squeezed out leaving only a super thin film between the surfaces.

Can't stress enough guys, but if you take your car in and they only seal the plate then chances are you will have the leak again. They MUST do that housing too.

If your car was manufactured in 2013 then you probably won't have this problem. It is only the 2012 ones. I suspect the problem was discovered before the end of 2012 and the factory reviewed the procedure and subsequenlty corrected it "in house" Don't go holding out for some sort of official service bulletin, because I doubt there will be one.

However you now know how to fix it so let your dealer know what you want done. You are the customer!!!

@Marrk Yes that black line which you think is a trail of oil is not. that is a line of sealant that is along the bottom seam. If you look up top, you will see another line of sealant on the outside of the housing. If you enlarge the picture you can see the seam of the two halves if you look closely.
