BRZs at TMP (Cayuga)

This past Saturday.... first time on the track with the BRZ, definitely a lot more fun than my other car that weighs another ~1000 lbs more.

An Audi A4 quattro.... Just googled it to refresh my memory it's probably more like 3650 lbs vs 2800 or so, so an approximate 800 lbs difference.

Where were you guys on Friday when I was surrounded by Miatas?

First time at Cayuga... Great track, but too many idiots towards the end of the day, there were a number of us that left early. Still like Grand Bend for the price and closeness to home, but will be at Cayuga again for sure. FR-S held its own against lots of more expensive cars.

Hey Tanner, which color BRZ were you? I was definitely nervous behind the grey FRS as it was getting quite twitchy and off line All in all it was great fun and was nice to see some other women out there besides my wife.

Cheers,

We were there on Saturday. Good friend organizes these small events a couple times a year, usually for friends and friends of friends.

Wife and I had the WRB one. Wanted to get out a bit more at the end but she hogged the keys and was out there for about 15 or so laps non-stop to the end having fun. She got a bit frustrated as she's really not use to stability control and it kept on holding her back as she's used to racing/tracking a 944 which had none of that stuff. I think we're going to try and find some event where we can experiment with the car on a skidpad.

Have you upgraded brakes for track days? What are you using?

I've replaced the fluid after boiling off the OE, but still had some fade at the end of a long day lapping. Wondering how other peoples setups hold up? I'll replace pads next spring, hoping that will be enough.

We're completely stock... didn't experience any fade, so probably not pushing hard enough

Spent Friday night avoiding people pushing past the level of their driving ability. Lapping with other people who leave reckless pride at home would be a welcome change.

I would recommend upgrading your brake fluid, I got two track days out of mine before I boiled it under hard braking. Surprised Cayuga didn't cause the same problem for you, I found it really technical (which was awesome!), had the car under heavy braking on three or four corners there.

Ahh yes I remember ... saw your wife out there and she was quick, it's no wonder considering she races 944's! We were the black Exige and my wife was hogging the keys as well ... might need to bring out both cars next time!

Cheers,

Yeah the open track days on Wednesday and Friday are quite crazy as there are lot of idiots who come out and drive way beyond their abilities. Last time we were out a GT3 decided he would pass us on the inside going into turn 3/4 ... we literally missed by inches and he got quite a earful! The private sessions are definitely the way to go as they typically a lot safer with less egos!

Cheers,

You boiled the OE fluid without overheating the pads? That's shocking. I overheated the stock pads after like 2 laps with ZII's but the fluid was fine. I've since upgraded to ATE Super Blue fluid and Ferodo DS2500 pads, no more fade at my skill level

Pads seem fine, some slight glazing but nothing I needed to worry too much about, they will need replacements for next season though. Was thinking about Hawk pads, but will check out Ferodo as well...

What are they like for noise, and more importantly dust?

I use Amsoil 600 brake fluid, but I have to cross the border for it, might see how the ATE stacks up. Thanks for the tips.
