I'll be at a bunch of the Northeast ones, anyone want to come out? Avi, hope to see you there!
I'll be at most of the Thompson and Palmer events.

I'm trying for Palmer on May 2nd. Toying with the idea of driving from there straight to Poconos on the 3rd. (I don't have a problem, I swear. )

There's a June 7th at Thompson but I may be at the Glen with BMW CCA on the 6th & 7th.

Can't hurt to reach out to them to see if they'll still apply the discount.

I will be there, debating on HPDE insurance as I am usually a time attack person.

I always pick up the insurance because you never know. If you think you're going to do a lot of events, buy a batch. Lockton's 6-pack saves you a little over an event worth.

So it looks like they changed the program a bit this year and each person can only use a code once on their account. So if you plan on attending multiple events, PM all of us for alternate codes: @ft86Fan @GSpeed @Uplink

Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but we were told our coupon code was just to be included with a purchase.

Oh, I apologize. We are probably part of two different promotion programs.

I just signed up for Thompson on April 26 and will hopefully be able to make Palmer on May 2nd as well.

I attended one of these events last year and was less than impressed for the following reasons:
1. They are mini light weight events that typically run the smallest and thus cheapest configuration at my local track (T'hill). C'mon SCCA, you literally OWN and operate thunderhill, open up the entire track!

2. I felt like the event brought out more tourists... even in the Advanced group. For the most part everyone was cool but there were a handful of pylon drivers out there including a Dodge Viper driven by a self-described "former SCCA champion" who was driving to block passers and then nearly ran me off the road when I attempted to pass on the small configuration track. First time I experienced someone THAT dangerous.

Other peoples may have had better experiences but mine was one to forget...

That may be a product of price, availability, and staffing. Also, it depends on layout complexity and speeds. Remember, these are geared towards bringing first timers out to the track. There are numerous factors. In our neck of the woods, they run all the normal configurations as standard HPDE's including Pocono's Double Infield (though not any of the newer South/East configs).

That also depends on who is running your specific events. John K and the crew heading up the Northeast events do an exceptional job of vetting out people and monitoring to see who needs to be reclassed.

That said, you will still get the odd person who doesn't understand if a car is in your mirrors every corner and you only gain distance on the straights, point them by because they are faster than you. This is more prevalent if you are in a recognizably underpowered car like a twin or a miata. You have a few options when this happens.

During your session, simply pit in. Tell the pit staff you just want a little gap so you're not bunched up and they'll send you back out with some space. We're not out there to take home a Rolex so the extra 45 seconds to a minute won't ruin your day. It also gives you a little breather and lowers your frustration.

After your session, in a friendly manner, approach the other driver. Chat about the session, discuss techniques, etc. Kindly explain to them to keep an eye on the mirrors/flags/etc. and if they have a high powered car, explain they might need to lift in addition to the point. (This is addressed in the lower level driver meetings.)

If that still doesn't resolve the issue or you still feel they are doing something erratic, speak to the event staff. Give them a description of the vehicle and run group and ask them to keep an eye out. The staff at our events have always been on top of that sort of thing as I'm sure yours were. I've personally overheard them addressing things in the novice/intermediate meetings like 'if you notice a long chain of cars behind you and aren't comfortable pointing them all by, pit in and we'll let you back out once they all pass'.

^ or just choose a different event/vendor where you don't actually have to enact these age old clichéd paragraphs
