I've had one since January. I chose it because it's one of the few that places the muffler underbody. IME, the more tailpipe, the less raspy the sound - all else equal (and it never is).

It doesn't drone, that's true, but there are cabin resonant points at roughly 2000RPM, and multiples thereof. It's only really bad when you're accelerating under load; there's a hill I climb on my way to work about ten minutes after I leave my house, and the speed limit is 40 - which puts me right around 2000. With the windows up, it's pretty loud in the cabin.

But this isn't a Borla thing; it's the cabin's resonant frequency - any system that's louder than stock will do it. I even hear it a tiny bit with the stock setup. If summer ever arrives in force, I'm gonna try some dynamat or the like in the trunk area.

I bought the diffuser last week; mine arrived scratched up, so I haven't installed it (Borla's been really good about making it right). I've got two initial thoughts, though:

1. It's flimsier than I expected. I don't think that's necessarily a problem, just an observation.

2. I really don't like the silver powdercoat. I thought about having it redone in black (there are local shops that do powdercoating), but they'd have to strip the RTV sealant Borla put on the fin joints (don't know why, unless it's an attempt to head-off oxidation), and anyway stone chips would inevitably wind up exposing the substrate. Which is probably why Borla went with the color in the first place.

I think it's a decent product, just rather overpriced. But then, in this market niche, what isn't? I remember paying $300 for the SLP catback for my '99 Camaro.

This is Alvin from Borla Performance. Thanks OP for posting. OP has an automatic transmission FR-S - this was our first access to an AT vehicle. We confirmed our cat-back had no objectionable resonance issues while cruising.

We also used the OP's FR-S to develop a rear-section bolt-on exhaust. Look for a post on this product very soon.

Thanks for your interest in Borla!

Is this cat back only? Do you have any other mods? I love that Borla sound... Loved it back in my f-body days too.
