^^ This, fluids follow the path of least resistance, always. If there is a non-restrictive path around the radiator, air will pass around the radiator. There should be absolutely no path available other than through.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I reach 203F just cruising around town in traffic at 90F ambient temp even with an oil cooler.

Yes I meant 230F. I think if I recall correctly my highest temperature that I reached was 218F on the oil. It wasn't bad at all. Coolant is currently the only issue.

This is exactly what went wrong for me today. Heat mods include Turbo Blanket, FB Rad, wrap for hot parts. Track sessions were 20 min.

The first 3 sessions went off without a hitch. The 4th session I really pushed it too hard and got a wonderful coolant explosion at the end, all over my engine bay/hood, fenders. As an aside, I'm going to fab a coolant boil-over hose. It was not fun cleaning all the coolant from my engine bay, and all the hard to reach parts now smell like antifreeze :/

I realized after this incident that I had removed the front grill (which includes dams to direct air to the Rad/IC) Also An aftermarket rad doesn't have those sealant foam pieces. When I started contemplating the front end of my car it was readily apparent that most of the air flow is going-around the rad.

What was the damage? coolant 125-130C /257F, Oil temps 145C/293F.

After seeing this it's pretty obvious that the car isn't quite there yet for track prep. Next on the to do list is create some aluminum, or other material mouth ducts to funnel the air into the intercooler. Also picked up some foglight bezels, which I plan to utilize the right side duct to cool my second upgrade- a much needed oil cooler.

I'm hoping that I can avoid a vented hood. Currently trying to think up all kinds of schemes to get there.

Head gasket is usually the first to go. Check you oil dipstick. Is it milky? If not, you're *probably* okay.

The coolant explosion probably saved your engine (by causing you to stop driving), but there may have been hot spots when the coolant suddently boiled.

Any other challengers for those that think their FI can withstand even 1 lap of track driving by me?

No company has thought to fab air dams for this? They'd sell well, too. Or is it a custom fab thing?

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.

stick-on rubber foam window liner. Stick it on and stuff the gaps.

I'm picking up my koyo rad this week. I'll pick up some of this stuff before I install.

Even though I won't be going FI for some time, I'm going to have the car modded with FI in mind.

The fans are more important than the radiator, IMO.
