Not happy with exhaust sound

Hey guys,

Compared to a lot of other setups I've heard, I'm not really happy with my exhaust sound, but don't know which exact component(s) is causing the less-than-awesome sound. I can only describe it as "hollow" or "untuned".

My setup is as follows:

> Perrin 2.5" catback with resonator
> 2.5" custom catted front pipe
> 2.5" custom overpipe
> Stock header

Other mods:

> Perrin intake
> ECUTEK tune

Do frontpipes and overpipes contribute much to the overall sound?

Anyone know what it might be? I know it's difficult to detect what it could be without hearing it so I might upload a video shortly.

Thanks in advance!

yeah front pipe makes a big difference. not sure the exact sound you're talking about, but I am guessing it's the header. with the stock header you're at the midway point between rumble and no rumble. i think the stock header is like 30% uel, so it's probably resulting in a really bland sound. probably need to go full uel or el. aftermarket header will add a lot of sound definition and volume that's for sure.

Yeah, for what it's worth, I have a SpeedFactory UEL header on its way. Might wait to have it installed before I investigate further.

The header makes a big difference. I had a borla uel and Perrin 2.5 resonated and it was much louder than stock with a good rumble sound.
I put the stock header back on with the Perrin and now it's not a whole lot louder and not much different sounding than stock.
Not sure how much a difference the cat in the FT86SF will make compared to catless.
