Anybody here also doing the track day at Kyalami on 16 Dec?

I'm so excited. Can't wait.
My car's ready for action with brand new rubber.

Nice!
Looks like you’re gearing up for a good day out. Any links to the track day page?

Thank you for the exhilarating ride around Kyalami!
This made my month! I cannot wait to get back into track days now!

What a pleasure to have you with, and what an AWESOME day it was for me.

So cool that you unexpectedly popped out of the woodwork today!!
And you really are "Mr Humble and Polite" - you say the nicest things, but you're a much better driver than me, and you know it, and now you're really itching to get onto Kyalami in your own car, ha-ha!!

It was only my second session ever on Kyalami, so I was still very ragged.
I think I was much smoother in the next session, but maybe not that much quicker - only 2 secs.

Expensive track day, but worth every penny...

And another bucketlist item bites the dust!!

This was my fastest lap today - 2m16.8

Awesome track, awesome day, and I'm sure that I can still knock 4 or 5 secs off that with more practice.
I can gain a few secs easily if I can grow bigger goolies for Sunset and Mineshaft...

I only did 3 sessions today of about 6 laps each.
Next time I'll stay over in Gauteng to avoid so much travelling up and down on the day, but was still AWESOME!! Loved Kyalami!!

Looked very cool...

I didn’t go through cos 1) it was damn pricey, but 2) I had no brakes.
No. 2 probably being the most NB. Haha

Fitted my new PB discs, pads and EBc braided hoses though, so looking forwards to running them in for a few km now.

How far are you driving from? That lap looked great!

I would love to participate in a track day, but I've only had the car just over 2 weeks and don't think I'm nearly ready enough. Are there autocross events in PTA area perhaps where I can start figuring the car out a bit better?

Also, I've been wondering how insurance works for tracks in SA? Anyone got some input to that?

Thanks. I'm from Nelspruit.

I'd suggest you start with the skidpan at Zwartkops.
You'll find their Supertrax calendar (track and/or skidpan) on their website.
Watch out for the main track at Zwartkops though - it can be unforgiving on beginners.

Rather progress to Red Star on a Wed or Fri.
It's a safe track which will forgive most of your worst mistakes.

I'm definitely keen, really want to see what our cars are capable of. But would a completely stock car be fine on the track?

No.

You MUST upgrade brake fluid. I recommend Motul RBF660 which you can get at most motorbike shops for about R200/500ml which is what you'll need.

You should upgrade brake pads, but that can come later. Just be alert and when you feel your brakes starting to fade, then slow down and let them cool off.

Brake pad overheating causes progressive fade and partial loss of braking.
Brake fluid boiling in the front calipers results in catastrophic brake failure.

Hey noodle. Fisheagles advice is sound.

Red star is perfect to play and learn as a lot of corners are slower, but more NB is that there isn’t too much stuff to hit if you do go off.

As for insurance. They all differ, so contact yours and ask first. Some cover “non competitive days” and others not at all. My previous one only covered me if I told them each and every time which day I went to a track (pretty stupid cos I don’t see how that reduces risk!).

Would anyone be interested in chipping in to hire the Zwartkops skid pan for a private day of fun?
If there are enough ppl then it wouldn’t be too costly.

I'd be keen - think my wife might be too
Might be worth making an 86 day of it?
