I just want to turn the car off and still have the radio on, damnit man

As you guys with Limited trims know, one of the issues with push button ignitions in this car is you can’t turn it to accessory mode while the car is running. Usually I have to turn the car off, then press the push start once w/o pressing the clutch in and it takes a while for the radio to actually power on.

This method I just discovered makes it easier and quicker, just press the button twice and the car will shut down but stays in accessory mode.

HOWEVER, I have a Kenwood head unit so this may not work with stock radio. Can someone with stock head unit try this and see if it works on theirs?

Damn, ok thanks for confirming. I guess it will only work on some aftermarket radios.

This was one of my biggest pet peeves about this car lol.

First world problems.

Must've sat in the car for an hour trying to think of something original to whine about.

Idk, I'm with the OP. I prefer having the physical key start, but not enough to do anything about it

If only there was some sort of document that came with the car or could be found online that would tell people how to do these things.

See #3 remember to not push clutch or brake while pushing button.

That doesn't actually resolve his issue. I get where he is coming from. Note the arrows on the document you posted. There is no way to get from 3 to 2 directly. You must go through 1 first, which shuts the radio off. It IS a bit irksome in those situations where you find yourself at your destination, and want to shut the car off for whatever reason, but want to continue listening to the radio (or having a conversation on the phone) without being interrupted.

So per the document, he is correct in being frustrated. I wish this car did what most do and kept the radio ON after shutting off the vehicle until you opened a door. It does this with the window buttons to allow you to close the window after you turn the car off until you open a door. It should have been extended to the radio. Plenty of Start/Stop button cars already do this; it isn't a limitation of having a Start/Stop system. It's all in the programming. Just something they didn't program for this car for whatever reason.

Oh I see what you mean but turning it back on is like, all of 4 seconds of work. The wife's Impreza has the HU stay on until you open the door but it will time out after about 10 minutes. Wonder if there is a programmable setting someplace.
The windows only work for about 30 seconds even if you don't open the door. Or at least mine only last that long.

Just step on the brake and pop the clutch to stop the engine.

Thanks, Stang.

A small issue, I know, but doesn't stop it from irking me.

Shame on you Tcoat for not reading my entire post lol.

Yeah, it's easy to hit the button twice, but the head unit then has to boot back up which takes longer than 4 seconds. And if you were talking on the phone when that happens, it will take even longer to reconnect to your phone.

To me this is the same kind of thing as the stupid passenger seat that won't latch in the slid-forward position. Like... okay... not the end of the world by any means, but one of those things you'd THINK would have annoyed the shit out of the testers responsible for logging endless hours of road-testing in mules prior to production.
