Don't worry. Eventually the things will become so top heavy that BestCar will quote the one, quoting the one, quoting the one, quoting the one, quoting the one, quoting them as new information.

That's assuming they would use the same transmission, driveshaft, axles, brakes, etc. I'd say the chances of a switch to a higher hp, larger displacement engine without any weight gain would be slim to none.

Yeah, it would increase in weight by at least 70-80 lbs, by going to a 2.4L , but if they can offset that weight in other areas of the car.....then that would be the master plan (as others have eluded to).

Comparing apples to pumpkins though. I do not believe that the FA24 is just a bored out FA20 (anybody?) but a dedicated block all on it's own. They can get weight savings by boring out a big cast iron V8 with loads of material to spare. Boring out an aluminum boxer block that is already as compact as they feel they can safely make it is a whole different matter.

They gave the 17 5HP and it went up a few pounds. The idea of higher HP with less weight is a pipe dream. Not sure how they could save more weight anyway without going to materials that are going to jack the price. Hell, as you said everything would need to be heavier to deal with the power so all of a sudden it is a $55K car that everybody will still say is under powered and too heavy for the price.

FWIW, when the ND came out Mazda said it only had 155hp to keep the weight of the driveline, brakes, spindles, etc, down.
Then 4 years later they drop 30 more horses in it and they don’t beef anything else up. Point I’m making is that all of the components in the car have a healthy factor of safety in them (min FS of 2-3 is common in automotive), so a 10% bump in HP probably doesn’t require much redesign if any. |

If the power is higher than 226hp I’ll eat my hat.
I’ll also have to buy a hat first. |
