Great run Looks like you might have been able to set a better lap without traffic. My assumption is in TT events it's not open passing. Do you get limited run time? I figure guy in front of you should have given point-by or pitted, since you were out-cornering him.

NASA TT here is open passing. I think that's how it is nationwide, but am not positive. Most of us still give point-bys, though.

It is open passing and yes he was kind enough to give me point by the following lap. By that time tires were a little heated and started to have some fuel sputtering. That was my fastest lap of the weekend (got another one 4/10 off again...). That track is notoriously bumpy.

Long time lurker, new member. Never had time to post. Bought an FRS couple months ago, stripped it, went to get it caged, thrashed to get the race car built and straight to the track for Gridlife GLTC in Road America. Never driven one on track, only time even in one was on the way home from buying it...lol.

Turns out, it's amazingly fun, and fast! Worked hard to make it lightweight, and was able to get a decent lap at RA. Traffic cost me 0.5 sec in quali, so it should have been about a 2:34.6 (4th overall), but ended up with a 2:35.1 (5th overall). Consistently turned the 5th fastest race laps all weekend, so very pleased to have a top-5 type car in this super competitive field right out of the gate. My first two races were pretty lackluster due to hitting the limiter on race 1 start, getting used to the car at the limit in close quarters, and some gearbox issues, but after that race 3 & 4 showed the race pace even though starting track position was already set from the first two races. It's hard to make up positions with races that are less than 20 minutes long! Super sprint!

My car is part of the Winning Formula brigade/stable, and my buddy owns the joint, so it's great to have such a competent shop in my hometown to do the work I want. They aren't just a miata shop! Will only get faster with more seat time and setup!

Thanks for the info on the car and congrats on the record!

I'd be interested in some specs on this car, that is a crazy time for a n/a frs. Nice work!

Indeed! Only been to RA once and I think my best time was around 2:55, so 2:35 is smoking!

Here are specs from a conversation I had with the owner.

Revalved Öhlins R&T with custom spring rates, OS Giken, and the other usual track mods. Motor is bone stock except for a drop in KN filter, full Ace 350 4-2-1 header exhaust setup, and tune. 2390# without driver. 4.3 final drive. Made 198whp on e85.

Those are the big ones. Oh, the Stoptech C43 brake kit is phenomenal, we upgraded it with full aero-rotors. Got a used tranny being rebuilt with a lower 6th gear coming soon, and plan to have Element tuning build me an NA motor not really for more power, but for more oil pressure and stronger internals, and to be able to rev to 8000 safely, for gearing purposes. At my power level, a built motor from them should last forever.

Going to try and prove an FA20 can somewhat compete with all the motor swaps with uber-flat power curves, so need all the torque I can get. That is until K-miata comes out with a turn-key K24 swap kit. lol.

What tires?

I raised my redline but typically short shift 7-7.5k just to be easy on the motor. Speaking of, with the 4.3 are you going though turn 1 in 5th?
