Last phase of my flex fuel tune will be tuning the 3.125 pulley on pump gas. First impressions on this setup is that the car is now in beast mode. Torque is significantly increased that you are pushed back in your seat when accelerating. I have to shake it down on our upcoming trackday to give a better assessment.

I'm interested to see what numbers your car makes on pump gas (100RON?) with the 3.125" pulley. I will be tuning a similar setup soon, with water/meth injection.

Yes we tune on 100RON. We will be retuning the car probably by next week. I'll be posting some dynos when we finish. Good luck on your build! The 3.125 pulley is a beast on E85! No idea on pump gas yet!

@sissupr, have you dynojet your car with the e85 moto-east tune? Would like to ask for some comparison numbers from a fellow 3.125 user.

Vortech 3.125 pulley on E85 review and impressions (10-26-14)

Vortech 3.125 pulley on E85 review and impressions (10-26-14)

After installing the 3.125 pulley, I haven't had the chance to really stretch the car's legs. With the newfound power it's pretty scary and dangerous to do it on the street, and thanks to Tuazon Racing School, the trackday invite came at just the right moment.

The event drew 200 plus cars and they had to divide the track time evenly for the car clubs in attendance so we only had two 15 minute runs for the day.

The philippine 86/BRZ club was well represented during the event. Thanks to @pcuerpo for the photos!

During the runs, I kept it safe, as this is officially a shakedown for the car. I shifted at 7000rpm, and kept my runs short, driving 7/10s. The car was a blast to drive, the higher boost gave me more passing power and straight line speed. I added 20kph more on the main straight, and actually had trouble slowing down with my current brake setup, engaging the ABS on some corners that I never had.

After the session, I noticed that I had burn marks on my rotors, nothing major, but I have never done that before.

Boost delivery is the same, but is more noticeable as I get thrown back in my seat a lot more now.

Overall, the car seems a lot lighter now, and with the power, a bit of a handful to drive. I need more track time with the car now to get to know how drive it properly. With the added straight line speed it is easy to miss my braking points. I definitely need more seat time to prepare for next season, and it's time to address the braking system. More on that soon.

Thanks guys. I'm currently waiting for some STI brembos to arrive. I'll try them out first if they are up to the task in slowing down the car. If not, I am really interested in the AP sprint kit.

I like the Brembo choice... (: Although I must say, I am kind of biased haha

Yeah, I kind of like the stock look of the sti brembos! Will experiment on pads and see if it works.

Please keep us updated on what you put down with 93 pump gas. I'm curious as I will be running a similar set up to @Turbowned next spring. Closest E85 station is an hour from my house, so WMI only makes sense for more reliable power...

Love the car though man, keep it up!

That dual tip exhaust...

Achilles ATR Sport install and review (11-27-14)

Achilles ATR Sport install and review (11-27-14)

I recently replaced my street tire setup because I suffered a puncture during one of our fun runs. What surprised me was how an Allen wrench could puncture my tire! One thing is for sure, someone is missing an Allen wrench right now. That's what you get for leaving it lying out on the road.

I went with Achilles ATR Sports after saying goodbye to my Nankang NSIIs. I went with 235/35/19 fronts, and 275/30/19 for the rears. I have been using this setup for almost two months of daily driving, and here are my thoughts:

Road noise: Tires are very quiet, especially compared to the Nankangs. Road imperfections are damped well by the ATRs.

Grip: Dry grip is great for a street tire. Wet grip is okay, although I have not tested these tires on triple digit speeds, they seem stable when going through puddles at speed. Tread pattern seem to evacuate water easily.

Construction: Overall the tire is solid, not RE11 like solid, but solid nonetheless. Sidewalls seem a bit on the soft side, but they seem to work better for daily driving. The tire cosmetically looks tamer than it's 123s cousin, but looks better than other budget tires out there.

I would recommend 265s for the rear as some offsets would come close to the fenders and rub when using the 275s. I did not get rubbing with my 265, but with this, I rub when the car dips on some roads. The 275 looks killer from the rear though.

For the price, these tires are great for daily driving in our weather. It's a set it, and forget it type of deal. Wear these out, and replace them when needed.

STI Brembo Brake Upgrade (11-27-14)

STI Brembo Brake Upgrade (11-27-14)

Finally all the parts came in to start my next project, the STI Brembo brake swap. I discovered from my last trackday that the stock calipers were having difficulty with the added horsepower from the Vortech 3.125 pulley and E85 tune.

I actually thought that the stock brake system was adequate enough, and just needed aggressive brake pads and fluid if you wanted to track the car. I have done a lot of trackdays and races on my stock calipers with no problems with fade and stopping power. My proven setup was Acre 900Cs with Motul RBF and Goodridge SS lines. This setup is solid up to 300 whp in my experience.

The moment I jumped another 50 whp, things changed a lot on track. Acceleration is a lot different and top end speed increased greatly which had me second guessing my usual braking points. The brakes simply seemed lacking and I felt the car couldn't stop consistently and was engaging the ABS a lot more frequently than normal.

After reading up on the STI Brembo thread, I then got to sourcing the parts needed for the swap. I got my 2004 STI calipers on ebay, DBA rotors from Rallysportdirect, and front and rear brake pads from Works Bell Japan. I also opted to install APR extended lugs while I was at it to upgrade the soft stock wheel studs.

I chose to upgrade the front calipers only because I wanted to use the same pads on all four corners, after hearing from other users that brake bias is thrown off when using rear brembo calipers.

I chose Works Bell Japan SMR brake pads which has an operating temp of 80degC to 820degC and a friction coefficient of 0.5 - .59. Having success with the Acre 900C, these specs are very close and it did not hurt that the local 86/BRZ club had a group buy for the pads.

Comparing the hardware to stock shows how much pad surface and rotor size you gain from this swap. Here are some pics of the stock brake pads and rotors compared to the brembo and DBA rotors.

The install was a straightforward affair, which could be done in around 3-4 hours with bleeding the brakes. Everything bolted up fine including the APR studs.

I have not bedded the pads yet, and driving around on the brembos, I can say the initial bite is a lot more aggressive than the stock calipers. Feel is somewhat diffrent, but modulation of the pedal seems the same. A few aggressive stops from speed showed a lot of promise and it looks like the pad and rotor combo can slow the car down at the track with ease. I still have to test these out on track with more aggressive tires, but on the street this setup is overkill. With the same compound front and rear, brake bias doesn't seem off. Since I have not bedded the pads, they are a lot noisier than the Acre 900C, and those were noisy already. Maybe the added surface area and lack of shims contribute to this. I will see after I have done a proper bedding session on them.

[CENTER]

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the upgrade. They look killer with the gold calipers on a black car. The DBA rotors look mean through the wheels, OEM like quality with the performance to boot. I am sure the more expensive brake packages would perform better, but for the price and ease of install, the Brembo STI upgrade is a great option for our cars. I will report back after I fully test test this setup on the track.
