My advice would be to finance a cheaper car to start off on. Then when you pay that off you can move on to something that cost more. You're going to get killed on APR when you have no established credits. You pay to earn your credits. Eventually when you're credit worthy you can buy whatever you want with low interest rates. It may be better to find someone with a better credit score and it may offset the apr for your first loan.
Or wait a few years to build your credit from credit cards and you may be able to get a lower apr when your score is higher. I was in your shoes when I was 19 so I know how that feels. Be patient and play the game right! Make money first before you give it away to the banks |

I pretty much had the dealer work for me though. I played hardball with them and showed them a few times I wasn't afraid to just walk away and look elsewhere. I had to get up a few times and head for the door when they wouldn't work with me and almost left the first time. |

Holy mother of lucifer that APR... Like everyone else is saying, being 19 and trying to get this car is gunna be difficult for you no matter what dealership you go to. They weren't trying to screw, just trying to protect themselves.
My honest advice: Do not buy the car if you can't get a better loan out there. It's a great little car, but I can't even imagine forking over $45k + for it. hell, buy a used 10,000$ or less car with that down payment and wait till they power this car up in 2015. You'll be 21, the car will be faster, and you will be richer for it. |

So scion tried to screw me today (SoCal)
Crazy, this was my first new car purchase, I had a very short credit history with not much available credit and was still able to finance my FR-S for 3% APR. the dealer didnt even require a downpayment for it either.
I love my car but there is no way I would have bought it if I couldn't get a lower than 7% APR on it.

You're saying that you already had a car loan that you have refinanced? Since you're only 19 I'm not sure how those numbers work out but consistently refinancing isn't helping your FICO which largely determines your APR. Also I didn't see any discussion of selling your present car so if they're not showing you closing out your current loan (trade-in with pay-off) then that's going to limit what they think you can afford.
Not trying to put you off of a great car but maybe you want to look at a gen coupe...the financing is probably going to be easier to get because of the volume Hyundai deals with. *2 cents* Last edited by gily25; 10-16-2013 at 02:57 PM. |

I agree with @campy that a sticky would be useful, one where a collection of posts could offer guidance and some understanding about the whole process of buying a car, especially the finance part where too many young people feel intimidated, lost, and may be taken advantage of. In these cases, ignorance is NOT bliss. |
