Hi Brian,

Thanks for interested in the light, at the moment I just mods things on my car to challenge myself to see if I can do it or not. My next goal is to have lights on the door handles and control all the ambient lights with the audio head unit.

do you have a plan on each of the mods you are doing with the lights; such as parts/part numbers, quantity of each, i.e. a schematic?

simple "how-tos" are fun and let people express themselves.

Of course, you could also patent your design/ideas and get a lock on the market; however, I do not know how Canada patent laws work. I know the US Patent Office gives you up to one year to field your idea once preliminary patent application is filed while "blocking" others from infringing on your design.

just a forewarning, those are not cree led chips, they are more commonly known as epistar, which is an entirely different brand. and unfortunately, they are not as reliable or as bright as cree chips at the same drive current.

also, you appear to be running them without a constant current driver? high power led's like that are subject to thermal runaway, and must have a constant current driver to keep that in check.

reverse lights are not worth patenting, as there's very little market for it once you use high end components. i'm on my 3rd reverse light build, my 2nd build cost approximately $700 in parts.

That may be so; however, filing a patent on your design gives you sole ownership, and protection of your intellectual property/product.

Yes, a bigger/larger company can come in and find a way to make your design cheaper, either through scale, automation, parts selection, or a combination of each. In either case, they would need to, more or less, change you design 20% to make their own light(s) based on your design and patent it as their own.

I've seen many cool small time products that were cool also be sold next to big name parts that look identical and do the same thing with only minor tweaks to color and small variances in mechanism operation, with different patent (pending) numbers. All the good stuff gets copied and "improved" quickly.

I see Valenti is now making a sequential 4th brake light. Not as cool, but available to buy.

.
Sorry everyone, haven't been on this site for awhile. The reverse is powered by a separate constant current driver. This way the LEDs last longer and I can dim the light at will if needed. Also I guess the seller lied to me about it as a Cree product.

Hi, schematic is very simple.

I use a total 5 wires
1 ground
1 12 Volt
1 power wire to the reverse light with a current driver
1 5 Volt
1 digital signal wire to the V light

That is very cool actually. If only I can build it as plug and play so it can be easily install by everyone.
