I dont think manual tranny will go away anytime soon, but i think it will get better maybe a 7 speed gear box or like nissans SynchroRev, just like any speed freaks i prefer a traditional gearbox. but like tech guy i dont mind having a daily car thats sporty yet comfortable 4 door w/ a dual clutch and all the tech of a modern sports car.

6 speed would be lovely for me. I don't mind if they have a Toyota version of the SyncroRev match thinger-mc-jiggy or not, don't really care. I want a stick, and a clutch pedal.
Dual clutch sequential gearbox -- I'm not ready for it yet to be honest, I still want to go through the gears myself. Maybe later on in life, when I feel like I would want one. Even though they are "superior" in shifting speed vs a traditional manual, its a feel issue for me. Right now, I feel they won't be a good choice for me. Thus, I'll take my traditional 6 speed w/ clutch pedal |

I recently made the switch to a is250 from my WRX and I miss driving stick too! Hopefully they do home out with a manual transmission. Or maybe they should do what the EVOX has done. Offer stick and a dual clutch system.

My guess is that is indeed a mockup at the least. Looks like the best Aisin transmission for the job is already used on a Toyota and on some powerful rides down under. The AY6 is used on the Tacoma, LC, Lexus IS, and FJ C. Its also used in the Holden Commodore and Ute (which have big Corvette LS motors...yum.) Also in the Camaro and CTS, also with LS motors of course.
1 2 3 4 5 6 R 4.17 2.19 1.49 1.19 1.00 0.84 3.67 Even if this particular transmission in the picture is not the AY6 mockup, my guess is this will be one that will be used. That's great for us as it is famous for holding 500lb-ft of torque and is smooth as silk in the CTS I drove. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aisin_AY_transmission |

I don't know a ton about transmission, but the gearing seems decent enough. Why would it not fit? :/

Hey,
Ive been trying to track down a link explaining how the ay6 was chiefly designegne for v6 applications and nothing else. If i remember correcly, theres a ton of info on ay6 modalities on some of the chevy and caddy forums. The AZ6 is the ONLY RWD manual offered by Aisin (dont worry thats a good thing as its prob the smoothest manual out there...notwithstanding anything made by Honda.....ohhh and forget that bs. about mis-shifts) If there were something else applicable, Aisin wouldve released info by now.......As mentioned theyve already advertised the fact that theyve biult a manual for the supercar LFA which prob is still a year or 2 away.... |
