Instead of killing the one car that most people think of first when you say Mitsubishi, or turning it into some hybrid performance vehicle they should be leveraging that platform as much as possible.
There entire car line-up should be somehow based on the EVO. Make a small 2 door coupe version and call it an Eclipse GSX. Then make a slightly larger more luxurious sedan/coupe combo and bring back the Galant VR4 and 3000GT VR4 nameplates. They could even have a small hot hatch carrying the cyborg name. The only car people are buying from Mitsu is the lancer and evo don't throw that out... capitalize on it. Stop trying to out green Toyota and slowly back away from the all hybrid path you're on. You should be trying to be the Japanese Porsche not a Toyota clone. Trying to go mainstream is what got you into this mess in the first place. Just say F*!K it and go all in on the performance front. That is the only way you are ever going to be anything other than a bottom tier Japanese automaker. And this is coming from someone who bought all three of the previous generation Eclipses (most of them new so mitsu actually made money off of me) but refuses to buy any of their current products. |
