Moto East Crawford Power Blocks Testing & Dyno!
We recently had a batch of folks come through on the dyno, and it just so happened that we had a car on race gas with a near identical setup to one we just tuned on e85. Only difference? Cat in the exhaust, and power blocks. E85 and 100 octane + will both hit peak torque with no knock.
The cat explains a couple HP at the top end, but the the power blocks and dyno really tell the story here. One is a P&L header (catted), the other is a p&l copy (we won't mention who). But for our purposes they are exactly the same. Both cars spent several hours on the dyno last year, so for this reason you see the "humps" due to the hyper optimized VE. The more time we spend on the dyno the "rougher" the plot looks with more humps, simply because we can search through all the nooks and crannies for any HP to be had in the spots where VE is just really high. This is normal for an EL header. So on with the show....see if you can spot the power blocks plot. So what you can see here is that the power band is shifted. Our VE humps are shifted as well, and the top end we are fortunately able to recover any HP lost by altering cam phasing and increasing the timing. Verdict? Area under the curve is definitely improved. No doubt you will feel these in the 5500-6500 range bit time. Last edited by Xero-Limit; 06-06-2014 at 10:16 PM. |

So these ~190 whp numbers were on a dynojet with E85 (or 100 octane)?
Just confirming. Dynojets are usually pretty consistent, I was thinking ~10-15 more whp... |

From Mike's description, the darker plot is E85, the lighter plot is 100.

Darker plot = E85, Crawford power blocks, catted header.
Lighter plot = Race gas, no Crawford power blocks, catless header. |

Darker plot has the blocks but which fuel is confusing. I believe Shiv posted recently that he wasn't having much luck pairing the power blocks with E85 which was disappointing since that's what I run at the track and I'd love to get more between 5500 and 6500. That bump in the graph would really help the car pull at corner exit.

Color selection could've been better here! Darker is e85. This is a slightly lower reading Dynojet than normal.
