Update:
I took my front pipe off because it wasn't working with the cat-back due to the end being warped. I'm working on getting a replacement. I installed the OEM front-pipe back on and hooked it up to the flowmaster cat-back. The car is very loud, much louder than I was expecting. I don't know if I will keep it on there. With my set-up it vibrates the cabin pretty hard and drones a bit when you're not at a certain throttle position cruising. I don't know, it's just not me. It has a nice purr to it at idle but just opens up way too loud and even at moderate throttle there's no way to keep it quiet: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkO77EUZhnQ"]Flowmaster Cat Back on BRZ - YouTube[/ame]

That's loud, I dunno if it's way mic picks it up but that's loudest interior clip I've heard in almost any vid of this car. :O

I'm jealous of all the parts you keep getting. My wife has this strange obsession with this thing called a saving account, it is really holding me back.

I need to do that too. This was my last item for a while. I plan to do the clutch/flywheel down the road but I'm almost all done.

There's just so much cabin vibration at low rpms, otherwise I wouldn't care about the noise up top.
Here's a better video: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3htPK49Fs3A"]Cat Back Rd 2 - YouTube[/ame]

Sounds so raspy. What made you choose the Flowmaster?

After taking my car for a spin, I though there's no way this is right, there has to be a leak, it's just too loud.
Turns out I didn't get the inlet pipe into the muffler in all the way. I readjusted and torqued the hell out of everything. Bad video but it's better now. Still pretty loud with a side of rasp, but better than before. It seems like the cabin vibration is coming from the muffler being really close to the heat shield under the trunk. I wonder if there is anything I can do to dampen that? [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gtzgprj_xNY"]Brz flowmaster rd 3 - YouTube[/ame]

Update:
I finally received my replacement front pipe from FA20Club. I know people have been all over them and it did take forever to get here but I bought my original one back in June of last year and they still replaced it all this time later. I plan to run it up to @Pure_Automotive early next week to throw it on so I can get it up on the lift and check out my cat-back slip fits for any leaks and make some adjustments to reduce the drone from the muffler sitting close to the heat shield. I plan to also get some dyno pulls, so stay tuned. Should have some nice updates here in a few days. This time with a donut gasket that fits! Side by side with the original one I had:

Small Update:
Installed the new/replacement front-pipe It seems a little too loud/raspy with the cat-back. I might go back to the OEM cat-back. I'm going to put a few more miles on it and figure that out. My new brake set up (jk ZR1's) My tuner is ironing out some things but I was making about 25whp over my last run up to 5k rpms, had 210 torque at 4k rpms. Hope to get back up with a revised tune soon.

Dyno Run:
My tuner is working on the misfire issue above 5500 rpms. Hopefully we can get that fixed soon. My exhaust is a little too loud so I plan to throw the stock cat-back on here in a couple weeks. This misfire issue seems unique to the intercooled version. Highlights: 215whp @ 5500 rpms and hit 210 lb/ft of torque @ 4000 rpms. So once things get worked out, I should be on track to make some solid power. NOTE - I have reflashed a new map. All the fueling was redone so take the old map/dyno run below with a grain of salt. Small update
I swapped back to the OEM MAP sensor and things are running good and smooth now. I'm hoping to get back to the dyno next week before I head to Europe if time permits. I should be in good shape now. Here is the run when I ran into the misfire issue:

Glad the stock map sensor fixed your issue. Can't wait to swap mine back in too. Hopefully on the THIRD trip to the dyno, I can finally get tuned lol.
I took my front pipe off - car was too loud, especially on cold starts.. yikes. I was thinking of doing the opposite and taking the catback off, but I like a bit of sound. I'm hoping it doesn't really impact power, but I really doubt its going to. |
