GTR Nismo laps Willow Springs
If yall haven't seen it already, Motortrend just tested the GTR Nismo against the C7 Z06 at Willow Springs. Despite the Z06 having far superior carbon ceramic brakes, stickier Cup 2 tires, 50 more hp, 181 ft*lb more torque, and 300 pounds less weight, it got destroyed.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5F18o8xayA"]2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo! - Head 2 Head Ep. 62 - YouTube[/ame] http://fastestlaps.com/tracks/willow_springs.html I can't believe it edged out #3 on that list! Disclaimer: I'm not a GTR fanboy. In fact, I would rather drive the cheaper, manual, RWD, better-sounding Z06. |

Ill take the Z06, i've always found the R35 rather soulless to me.
(Yes I have a couple of R35s) |

That said, it's impressive how fast the GT-R Nismo is, especially on less sticky tires. While MT guessed the Z06 was being out-gunned on the straights because of the rear wing, I suspect the GT-R was gaining significant time (maybe 1 second/lap) by using a dual-clutch auto. Great video btw. Pobst did a great job with the track commentary (as usual).

I'll take a normal GTR and throw a tune, exhaust, and Toyo R888s on it for track days

The 'Vette punching $50k (and more) above it's weight is substantial factor here.
Sort of like a $25k '86 with tires, tune, pads & fluid punching well above it's weight too. |

The GTR driver obviously pushed X X up down left right O O Select.
I remain unimpressed. In the same way a perfect blow job machine would never take the place of of the mouths of people who displease me so tasked |

AWD vs RWD... massive traction advantage there, so it's not really a fair comparison. They should run a Vette vs. a Ferrari, not a GTR.

A buddy of mine works as a Corrections Officer for a local prison. One of the inmates in his block had a rubber ball, and my friend was told to take it from him as he wasn't allowed to have it in his cell. My friend politely asked him to hand over the ball, and the inmate refused, saying something to the effect of "come in here and try to take it". In response, my friend took out his pepper spray, started shaking the can, and said "My job is not to 'see if I can take it'. My job is to take it". He got the ball. The GT-R (in particular the Nismo) isn't built to be a driver-focused car. It's not built to excite the driver or create some monster that has to be wrestled to the ground. The GT-R isn't built to "see if it can win races". It's built to win them. For the kind of driving it's built to do, it doesn't have to care if you or its driver is bored. A trophy is a trophy. And Randy Pobst is one of the most experienced and thoroughly vetted (pun partially intended) drivers out there, who has over 90 pro wins across multiple racing teams.. What he doesn't know about track driving probably isn't worth knowing, so you can take his word pretty much as gospel truth. |

You have the R pegged perfectly. I think that is the philosophy Nissan had as they designed it and they achieved it. It runs totally counter to my philosophy, however, where I want a car that doesn't suffer fools, expects the driver to do his job and will try to kill him if he doesn't. I am ok with some people caring more about the result than the excitement of the process. Unfortunately, however, more and more people are like this and carmakers and legislators are as well. This means fewer and fewer "driver's cars" will be made for folks like me. Moving further, not only will there be no cars for us to buy, we shall see the move towards less and less places where those of us who have kept our old cars can drive them. I don't hate the GTR because of what it is. I hate it because of what it represents. Signed The guy that is probably going to pull the ABS fuse on his brand new BRZ when it gets here. |

I'd take the Corvette, though not a fan of its front end.
Those headlights remind me so much of the likes of the Celicas, 350Zs, Godzillas, G35s, etc. |

I think the coolest thing of all this is how this video puts into perspective how good our car can be with the proper mods. In before "fan boi our car isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread" I'm not saying ours can beat car b with we have this mod and that mod. Just saying its cool that we can have a competitive car for a fraction of the cost. CSG Mike Did this course in 1:30 with worn tires with a heavily modded BRZ which is cool as hell. I'd bet with everything invested including cost of the car that brz is under 55k.
