Picked up my Raven black 2017 with 5k miles for under $22k. Previous owner had TRD Sway Bars, wheels, and exhaust installed. Even with dealer mark up I doubt Brembo brakes and Sachs dampers will be more expensive.

Guess we'll find out soon enough.

You're forgetting the push-button start, heated seats, factory alarm, keyless entry, heated mirrors, upgraded steering wheel and other interior goodies though. Have you looked to see how much a climate control conversion costs for a base 86?

Plus, I bet the bodykit would sell for a pretty penny considering it has a front lip, side-skirts, and 3 piece spoiler.

Definitly didn't factor those items, you're correct,. My bias only factored the items I think are important to my driving pleasure.

Depending on the steering wheel feel I might add that to my list.

This is the reason I got the tS. It had everything I want for a decent price and all under warranty.

The most missed part when people say you can do it yourself.

Not to mention the inherent value that comes with having a limited edition model over a base model. If your car is 1 of 500 it will probably hold its value a little better. I know that's not always the case, but I would imagine that the tS will demand a premium for years to come.

Yep. The "built not bought" phrase usually means money was lost in the long run. There are also many people (most are not on forums) that do not have the ability to mod extensively. They may not have the space, tools, skills or even the desire to do the work themselves so the special editions give them a chance to buy something that is already different from the majority. This type of buyer is far more common than most people on car forums would like to recognize. They are also often looked down on by the "do it yourself bro" crowd but there is zero wrong with people wanting to buy a finished product. This TRD edition will sell just fine if to nobody but that crowd (of which I include myself).

Just look at the value of the 1996 Integra Type-R. A friend of mine who used to have a car lot (until the housing crash killed his biz) was telling me they sell for $60,000 now if they're in mint condition. He said the black and yellow Type-R is selling for 30k. I figured one day the original white one would be valuable but I'm surprised the yellow and black one is worth 30k today due to the increased production numbers.

I used to have that attitude too. But you get older and have kids and just don't have the time to do the mod thing anymore. Even if you do have the time to mod the car you don't have the time to fix the mods as the break. For me that is the biggest problem is the constant fixing involved with mods. I have friends ask me if I'll ever go FI on my car and my reponces is, HELL NO, I don't have time for that shit anymore. Hahaha

Yeah, I would be surprised if the tS mimics the Type R as much. The Type R had drastic changes from the GSR, the tS...not so much.

But yeah, ITR prices are out of this world.

No problem with buying, rather than building. I'm all good with what others may want. I personally am one of those that prefers modifying, just because I enjoy it and am not set on having a complete package or all the goodies. I only want certain parts that are OEM/TRD/etc.

I think the sentiment exists among us saying "it'd be better to build it" because of the extreme markup associated with what is perceived to be 'meh' parts.
We're not talking about markup between GT-->TRD which is $3800, but Base -->TRD which is ~$6000, at least based on what the article states is going to be the MSRP.

To be honest the 17MY 860 SE and the 18MY GT were not worth the markup. Maybe this TRD SE will be different. I wouldn't be totally against getting something special edition/complete/all looks, etc. I may get one some day who knows, maybe even this.

But I think most people are just expecting HP at this point. And I can tell you that this won't have more HP.
