BRZ Nav MP3 issue

I've got a Sandisk Cruiser Fit 32GB, that I have been using in the car for a few months for mp3 playback. One day a couple of weeks ago, I went to go for another folder, and the whole thing stopped working. Tried the drive on a variety of PCs, TV, and tablet, and all of them could read it just fine.

I have since put another drive (Kingston DTSE9, 16GB) in the car, and it works mostly. Head unit reboots during song playback sometimes. Not sure what's going on.

Never had an issue like this on my other mp3 head units. Any ideas?

Run a scan on the USB drive and see if there aren't any corrupt FAT's or other issues with the drive. They can be dodgy at times.

Thanks for the suggestion. Scans showed no issues.

@TheRipler that's strange. i think you may have to just reformat the drive. copy everything onto your PC, reformat and then copy it back and see if that works.

I just tried putting the 32G Sandisk back in. Now it is acting just like the 16G Kingston. It is recognized, and songs will play. After a minute or two, there is a hiccup in playback, and ~10 sec later the head unit will crash and reboot. Song will start up again right where it left off.

There are a variety of mp3 types on the drive. I've got old 128K fixed rate, VBR, and some 300K+ files. All of them seem to do the same thing. For the first year, it never had problems with any of them.

Apparently, I am on a SiriusXM free trial of some sort. The head unit also crashed while listening to that.

The head unit has a real problem with anything over 8GB. It specifies up to 8GB in the manual for the nav system, and I believe it has to be in a specific FAT format. If you want more than 8GB, you'll have to get multiple flash drives.

On a side note, I use old 8GB MicroSD cards from past smartphones, they have tiny USB mounts for them that are super low-profile so you're not hitting them when shifting, and they're not an eyesore. Plus they're pretty fast depending on the class. I use this one: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-microSD-Memory-Reader-FCR-MRB/dp/B000V5G4TK"]Amazon.com: Kingston USB 2.0 microSD Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-MRB (Black): Electronics[/ame]

You can get them as cheap as $5 if you look around http://www.adafruit.com/products/939...FSNyQgodz24AOA
