Factory Rear View Camera Install

So after looking around, I found a factory camera that is basically plug and play. The Toyota FIT (not the Honda Fit, this FIT is some Toyota acronym I think) camera system works, and I found the OEM part from a Toyota dealership on ebay. This is the same camera that's plug-n-play for the new Toyota Camry, Prius, Matrix, Venza, Tacoma, etc. Cost was about $130-140. Great for an essentially plug and play kit.

Looking at the plastic trim that holds the trunk release and licens plate lights, I noticed that there's a manual key unlock hole on the right hand side. The camera fits nearly perfectly in this hold. I also noticed that there is an INDENTATION on the exact opposite side, where the OEM backup camera is SUPPOSED to be installed (hence the offset lines on the navi screen)

The kit COMES WITH a hold drill bit that you can use to drill out the hole in the plastic trim, but I didn't have a power drill with me, so I'll have to move it over later. For the time being, out came the manual trunk release and in went the camera.

Here's where the manual trunk release went, replaced by the camera. NOTE: I didn't seal it w/ silicone since I'll be moving the camera soon, but once installed permanantly, you'll want to use some silicone sealant to keep it in place.

Inside of the trunk. manual latch is removed, and the cable is ziptied to prevent it from moving around.

Wire is run with the other wires in the trunk lid, and through the rubber pass-thought to the main cabin.

Wires tucked along driver side edge. I ran the wire down this way (no need to remove any trim, under the driver rear seat, and through the center console (sorry, not many pics here). NOTE: the 4 small wires on the camera line. One pair is for flipping the image, and the other is for removing the lines. For the BRZ, you just need to remove the lines.

Here is a pic of the plug and play harness. I would've used the ACC power from the harness, IF I had remembered which pin it was... but I forgot, so I used the ACC power from the 10-pin connector circled below. I found that a ground connection wasn't needed, as the camera worked fine w/o a ground. However, I grounded the wire to the HU anyways.

Future additions:
I'll be moving the camera to the correct (driver) side of the rear trim once I get a power drill to cut out that hole so that the lines on the navi unit match. the car. I'll also be doing the parking brake and vss disable at that time. I didn't do this today because I didn't have a switch available.

That looks great. Be very careful not to enable the valet truck lock inside the trunk while you have the lock removed. It is very easy to accidentally do, especially if you are working with that carpeted cover where it mounts to run your wires.

I'll try to get the part number from the box if I can (car is downstairs in garage right now), but if you look on ebay, you should be able to find it listed under Toyota/Scion/Subaru FIT integrated Back Up Camera System or similar name.

I was careful not to hit the lock in the trunk. In fact, I should probably disable that switch... good call.

Stock HU that came with my BRZ. Harness should plug into FRS as well I think.

There's no part number, just search Ebay for Toyota FIT.

Searching ebay for Toyota FIT gives nothing but generic brand stuff.

Subscribing hoping for part numbers to be listed.

My stock HU is a FujitsuTen. I believe all USDM BRZ's had the same HU.

Searching "toyota FIT camera BRZ" on ebay returns a ton of results. Seller is a dealership in California: retractoyota

It looks just like my aftermarket cam, but mine might be a little more low profile, its hard to tell from the pic. Everything is plug-n-play in my reverse cam setup in the sense of not cutting\shaving\splicing anything in the car, everything uses a plug to connect\disconnect so I can remove it to go exactly as it came out of the factory. This is a great mod especially being its so cheap, I cant live without it now as dumb as that sounds. It really helps when backing into a space or out of your driveway etc

If anyone is considering and needs some info, here's what I did for my install, feel free to PM me if you need help as I recently did this install in January.

Power: The camera itself is powered by 12VDC, but the OEM headunit reverse cam power is 6VDC. There is an unused plug\adapter behind the headunit which svxDC makes a harness for so you can get 12VDC when accessories are on from that. So using the OEM hu reverse cam power 6VDC as a trigger for the relay and the 12VDC power from behind the HU, the camera gets a clean power source which is only on when the car is in reverse.

Signal: svcDX sells a harness that goes in place of the factory harness that connects the the HU which gives you the RCA input to the headunit and 6VDC to power the camera, which you will need to solder\connect your RCA lead/power from the camera. All other HU functionality remains the same with the svxDC harness, it just gives you RCA inputs and a power wire for the camera.

Install: I didn't have to cut/damage/splice anything. I ran the wires through the same path as the OP, and used to trunk keyhole for mounting. I also removed the electronic trunk release disabler button and tucked/zip-tied it behind the panel so it can never be accidentally touched as this would result in having no way to get into your trunk.

Costs: The camera I bought on eBay for $15, but a week later I found them being sold for $1 shipped! So I bought 2 more as backups. The 2 plugs from svxDC came to ~25, and ~$10 in parts from Radio Shack. Reverse cam mod total cost ~$50 but could be done cheaper based on how much you get the cam for.
