I don't recall a car that won't come out for a couple of years ever being so benchmarked lol
I'm glad everyone else is doing this and my Honda is just letting it all fall by the wayside. /facepalm

VW had had their small rwd and mid engine concepts at all the major car shows over the past like 4-5 years...its only now that the could actualy do anything with it now that they own the majority stake in porsche. but who knows at this point...

Honda traded in their nuts and their man card for a green image. Time to switch teams bud.

A small rwd mid-engined VW car built on a modified porsche boxster/cayman platform would be closer to the $35-45k USD range. You could almost buy 2 FT-86s for that price if the rumors of a $22k stripper track model are true. Not really what I would consider a FT-86 competitor.

Plus IIRC all of those VW concepts were convertibles right? I thought the plan was to build a "smaller cheaper entry level" boxster and VW would also get a version of that car out of the deal. There is no way that car is going to be anywhere close to $20k.

It's true And I used to be a big Honda fan back in the NSX / S2k days.

It was a sad sad day to see them pull the plug on their F1 program to divert more funds to their green vehicles.

one source close to Toyota told us that a special low-frills competition version will sell for less than $22,000 and be specially set up for racing with stiffer suspension and beefier brakes. The same model will be used for drifting competitions.
AHHHH music to my ears!

Reading that article brought back a rush of anticipation and excitement again just like when I first saw pix of the car and info on it. I'm all of the sudden impatient for the long wait again heh. Great post OP.

Know what isthe best thing about this car IMO? It's bringing together current/former AE86, MR-2, Celica, Impreza, Miata & S2000 owners. The community for this car will be awesome. Apart form being lightweight, adequately powered, well balanced and good looking, this is one of the things that will make this car a legend.

I'm actually very surprised you didn't just bold the S2000 owners part.
