I didn't want to believe it when they said our cars were the "new Civic"... but now I'm not so sure anymore.

And come on, we all know the Premium model doesn't come with fog lights... and why are there headlight washers? Does this game not take place in the US?

If you crash them in real life do they respawn back on the road?

Worldwide Honda sells more Civics in a month, than 86s sell in a year. There will always be thousands more gaudy modded Civics on the road than 86s. This car will never be "the new civic". Relax.

Hey kids, here's the real deal!
  • 2.03 demolished your front splitter
  • 2.13 and 2.20 bent your right rear wheel and possibly blew your tire
  • 2.36 and 2.39 tore up the right half of your bumper and destroyed your right headlight and fender
  • 3.00 scraped the whole undercarriage and possibly damaged your oil pan and transmission before finishing off the other side of your bumper with the left headlight and fender as well and crushing your radiator support, driving it into your engine
  • 3.07 and 3.09 are just salt on the wound
  • 3.11 would be the coup de gras where all four tires blew, wheels are hammered into a sweet D shape, your whole suspension collapses, your spine compresses and you snap your neck
You will be "noticed" in tonight's news report and the only thing I can salvage off your car is the rear spoiler.

Yea I know, not really being serious. Just alluding to how the default starting car back in the NFS Underground days would be a Civic, and now it's a BRZ...

Today you learned: They do
I have a premium BRZ......... it came with fog lights

No but really, my question is why is everyone over analyzing a game that has and always will be unrealistic and arcade style? has no one played the previous need for speed games or what? LOL Like everyone else said as well, our car's are FAR from the new civic.

Do grown-ups actually play these video games? I always thought it was a kid thing - once you were old enough to drive, go places, make money, chase women, etc., you went and did that sort of stuff instead.

If we're going to ignore the vast amount of material made for an adult audience, then the same could be said about TV or film, no? Why bother watching Mad Max when you can go out and "drive, go places, make money, chase women, etc."?

Games are simply a creative medium. Some games are for kids, some are for adults. In fact, the medial age of gamers these days is around 31. Further, lot of games address more complex themes and social issues suitable for adults. For instance, Deus Ex: HR deals with issues of transhumanism, the role of technology in society, and social inequality. MGS4 dealt with the military-industrial complex and the proper way to fry eggs. Even "low-brow" games like GTA5 still address things like the ineffectiveness of torture as an information-gathering tool.

Bottom line is you can't write off a $100billion/yr industry as kid stuff.

Edit: more specifically with racing games like NFS, even if they don't deal with complex social commentary, it's still fun for adults to tinker with mods they couldn't afford in real life and drive in ways that would normally get them arrested. It's just fun.

That was simply beautiful. I'm now convinced you could make a decent living writing high-concept comedic satire. I'm pretty sure Cracked is always hiring and I would read the shit out of your articles.

Just saying... Food for thought

Why not everything above?

And considering how big the industry has gotten, I would like to disagree with you. I personally see game industry taking over the movie industry with how complex some games are getting and the experience you get from them.
