MK4 still look timeless even 20+ year later. the new design just meh, especially don't dig the gap between top of the side windows to the roof.

Supra didn't have huge spoiler til A80. Rest of Supra were all small spoiler and duckbill.

I think most people in North America would agree that the Supra didn't exist until Fast and The Furious.

For the rest of the world, the huge spoiler wasn't even standard equipment on the A80, and the Celica XX/Supra had always been a GT car.

See how the A40 was originally marketed for picking up high end prostitutes with an automatic and leather seating.

So so true. BUT! I’ll admit, I didn’t know what Supra was til 2nd gen. (A60) I remember when my uncle was debating to buy Supra (A60) or go w Rx-7 (FB). In the end, he went w either lol

I feel like "those people" were either pretty young or just very ignorant car enthusiasts.

I don't understand how anyone into cars (and over the age of 12) would be unaware of the amazing sports cars unleashed by Japan in the early 90s. Those being the 300ZX TT, NSX, FD RX7, 3000GT VR4 and Supra TT. (comment is also mainly directed at the US & Canadian regions)

Sadly true. Stupid since they were decent GT cars ever since they were introduced (against their competition at the time).

Oh of course, but I wasn't arguing against that. I was arguing that car enthusiasts were fully aware of the car before it became movie famous.

Hell I was a big fan of the car in the original Road & Track Need for Speed computer game, LOL.

My brother played it for hours and hours on PSX (and on 3DO with my best friend) and we would use the cheat code (TSYBNS) to get the secret car and play on the "Lost Vegas" bonus track...our goal was not to win, but to make the Supra (which tended to finish last in this race) finish first by constantly trying to catch whoever was in the lead and crash them –and hopefully a few others– out. Thus allowing the Supra to get to the front. Ah, those were the days.

I was also a fan of it because my first car was an '86 Celica that I loved. In learning about the Celica and its history I of course learned about the Celica-Supra, and dreamed of eventually getting a Supra (I really wanted a MKIII for a while...headgasket failures and all).

Anyway...I'll stop answering questions that no one was asking.

It wasn't that it was a good car it just wasn't a big model name with the pubic in general. The people with the money even if they were "enthusiasts" just did not care. Enthusiasts do not get cars made nor sold the general buying public does. It didn't gain it's major rep and mystique until the younger crowd was exposed to it through film and games.

The Supra was dead to me when the A80 came out because ugly. The A70 was "tolerable". I think that may play more into its ultimate demise than people want to give it credit for. It was a love it or hate it design and most people I know hated it.

I never liked the lumpy-potato styling of the A80, from the day it came out up to present. The wing doesn't help, it looks absurd on the amorphous blob, opposite effect vs. purposeful look on the F40.

For me, A90 >> A80, stylingwise and all-around.

I couldn't stand the A70. Still can't. Never considered the car to be performance oriented, more cruiser. Didn't like the A80's looks when it came out; but it grew on me over time.

I think it looks great today, however amongst it's peers I'd rank it behind the RX7 and NSX.
