Since the s2k challenge is run on most of the socal tracks, what many of us have seen is the brz really shine on tracks where aerodynamics makes a difference i.e. the famous buttonwillow raceway config 13 clockwise. If anyone has spent a good amount of time at the track events where brz/frs/s2k are driven by competent drivers, then you tend to agree with mike has been saying. On slower speed tracks like streets of willow springs, an equivalently modded s2k will usually turn quicker lap times with equl driver. On a higher speed track like buttonwillow 13cw or auto club speed roval, the brz/frs is just as fast if not faster assuming equal drivers/tires/mods.
For some reason, your explanation makes more sense & my mind actually accepts it. lol Ok I step down on this debate.

This, in particular, is true. Granted, I have a lot more data to pull from with the S2k, but I'm much closer to the theoretical best times in the BRZ than I am with my S2k.

To be fair, my CR in particular seems to be looser than other CRs, and I've never been able to pinpoint a cause... I'm actually frustrated enough that I've given in and am going to get an adjustable front swaybar to see if I can get a tiny bit more grip in the back. It's all I need for consistency.

Strangely enough, I have the BRZ set a lot looser than most people like, but my fastest time was with a suspension setting that I thought was absolutely undrivable. The rear was swinging around wildly, and I was countersteering at almost every turn. The thought that that setting would turn in the fastest lap time didn't even cross my mind. Is it repeatable? Yes. Easily? No. I never got within 0.5 seconds of that lap time throughout the rest of the day (albeit, on different settings).

For time-attacks, we'll be using a more conservative, slightly understeery setup while I develop my driving more so that I can deliver close-to-ideal laps with a looser car. I've been driving less than 3 years, and still have a lot to learn.

I'm aiming for a 1:23.xxx at SoWS this weekend, albeit on r-comps.

I set the goal at a 1:27.x two weeks ago, and beat the goal my first lap out... remember, coilovers make a HUGE different at SoWS (although my S2k times don't reflect that...) The lack of power sucks on the front and back straights though, and the gearing is "perfectly" bad. Worse than the AP2. Data was showing that a 1:25.2 is possible with no changes.

Just to throw a curve ball, it turned out that the damper settings were wrong (my noobness prevented me from actually ever checking that day... never assume things are perfect), and there was a loss of grip almost everywhere. I'll definitely be faster this weekend.

Didn't read all the pages but anyway if you have the money to go buy a car right now, why would you buy an old S2k that look like 90s car? Example for $30k I can buy a few years old 370Z, G37, 335i..., but again those cars don't have the look of the brand new design 86 coupe. Secondly, if you like faster car then buy those used cars for better deal in speed and horse power. Price differences analysis for comparison sometime is not a point.

They are also completely DIFFERENT types of cars than the BRZ/FRS/S2000.

Different strokes for different folks.

I've run with a hardtop for so long that I forget that it can be removed & the car is a convertible.

Again, with equal mods, a FRS/BRZ would be faster. Imagine a BRZ like our shop car, with some voltex and amuse aero on it.

Great looking car though

Just as a reference point, this is how hard I'm driving the cars. Look at the rear tire in this picture. Looks stretched right? You can see the rim against the background. Also look at the compression. I'm on 16k springs square this day.

This is what the car looks like at rest...
