Perrin Filter Failure

So I took off my bumper today and found this.... I installed it 3 weeks ago... Apparently the super sharp chicken wire inside the filter cut through the rubber that was molded into the chicken wire itself and my filter was literally hanging on by a thread. Intake tube was wide open to the elements.

Contacting Perrin. Im sure they will take care of me but this design IMO was terrible. I spend money on Perrin like they going out of style and will continue to do so (stuff happens). Just a warning though to anyone running Perrin Intake. CHECK IT!!!!!

If anyone is wondering for the time being I went and got a Spectre shroud from the ricerzone and got it connected up pretty nice for the time being.

I hope others with the perrin intake check up on this, I know some with the innovate kit running this. Is it possible something was over torqued?

OH, NO! ....... @tofurun tore up something else on his machine ......

First off, that wire mesh is NOT chicken wire ....... you, being from South Georgia should know that .....

Now, are you sure you had BOTH clamps on tight ...... ??

I think you should trade that puppy in on a Ford pickup truck before you destroy it ......

afaik Perrin tells you to not over-tighten the V-band for exactly this reason.

I've had the same filter for ~3 years now, have taken it off to clean it roughly twice a year and have had no issues.

Yea I think the 2nd clamp may have been too tight causing it. Either way I still think thats a poor design that can allow something like that to happen doesnt make sense to me.

And what kinds south georgia boy do u take me for? An F150? you mean the one sitting in my driveway????

Yea they need to update their online instructions because it doesnt mention a single thing about it.

Actually, that truck looks right civilized ..... for south Georgia ......

I spent some time in Georgia ...... back in the 60's ...... at a place called Ft Benning for some Ranger training ....... hot and humid in the daytime and wet and cold at night ..... propped up against a stump, waist deep swamp water .... waiting for daylight ...... to get a bearing. I felt sorry for the young soldiers who were afraid of snakes ......

Yep, tightening that clamp down ....... as you now know, it's a "thumb and two fingers on a small screwdriver" tight thing ......

Gross! While it looks like it was tightened too much, I don't like the Perrin design at all.

There is an AEM dryflow that is oversized and fits the perrin intake. It requires a slight tweaking of one of the radiator support tabs, otherwise it's maybe 30% bigger, and it's a wonderful dryflow that should require much less care, and best of all isn't oiled.

Update

Talked to Perrin. Said they are updating their online instructions and it was due to over tightening. 100% sending me a brand new and said lets try to watch the tightening on my end lol. And this is why I order Perrin. A+ company. 0 hassle. With that being said.... I still dont like the filter design LOL
