The automotivenews.com website says it has been told that a blown 2.0-litre engine is being developed using a single twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection.

It speculates that such an engine could generate up to 209kW of power and 340Nm of torque – almost identical in output to a six-cylinder Holden Commodore SV6 (210kW/350Nm). The current BRZ is a massive 445kg lighter than the Commodore.

Put another way, the BRZ turbo would produce around 169kW per tonne – only slightly less than a Porsche 911 Carrera coupe (174kW/tonne). The 911 Carrera sprints to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds.

Why am I not surprised? And if it's priced well it will be a hot seller like the NA version if not more !

I said long before the release that either Toyota or Subaru will add F/I.

It was purely a matter of time

200hp N/A was never really going to cut in long term these days.

Now the big questions, price? and what will the differences to the engine/drive line be over N/A?

yeah but you guys didnt really think resale would last forever?

it's a $35k car... a base Commodore is the same money

it would always be the strategy to release a plain N/a model then 18 months later hit them with a convertible and a blown model... if some people buy two cars then that's good!

toyota is out to make as much money as possible and this is a fine strategy to do that

This is the second post on the boards today on this topic. Both the head engineer for Subaru, and the head of STI have both said the car will remain NA in all variations.

Given that cars are a depreciating "asset", resale wasn't even in my list of priorities anyway

The only reason I will sell mine is to move overseas anyway

This is not something you are going to hear a manufacturer say. ever.

they want to sell as many of these as they can, so saying that they are 'never' doing a turbo is just their marketing spin to sell more cars NOW.

they will still sell turbo cars later, and you will trade in your NA against them.
