@D_K Looks like it uses the stock air box, so i'm going to say no.

Will this bad boy be carb legal? We need updates, it's almost been an hour!

Looks like another Rotrex kit but lack up content makes this a big boner kill.

I'm interested in seeing *which* Rotrex this is based off of?

I know the first series was based on a Rotrex design that Rotrex binned. They felt there were reliability issues.

Hopefully the newer ones are based off of more current Rotrex designs.

This new setup has a few advantages over a rotrex kit. This new transmission is built to have less parasitic drag.

I will say I don't see an issue hitting the 300 whp goal.

In addition I am very familiar with Rotrex. Actually, I was quite involved with kit development using the unit on American vehicles around 10 years ago. Upon study of the Rotrex verse HKS unit I can say it's not always about power output although, all the data I have seen leaves me splitting hairs in regards to power comparisons. Both units boast efficient maps, charge temps, and higher impeller speeds but, 3 major changes HKS made to their design make a big difference in a few areas.

Change 1- Increasing the diameter of the impeller shaft. (2mm iirc)

Change 2- Using more than one bolt to mount the supercharger pulley opposed to Rotrex using one bolt.

Change 3- Reducing parasitic drag by spring loading one of the planetary wheels.

Change 3 might be a little confusing so I'll explain. If you look at the attached image you can see a small spring and shaft assembly to the right of the impeller shaft. The addition of this spring allows wheel tension to release during engine idle while progressively ramping up pressure on the impeller shaft to aid slippage during high boost levels.

Personally, I experienced issues with the Rotrex units during my development work directly relating to the HKS changes to their design. I can say they are definitely a step in the right direction for increased strength, longevity, and a more efficient unit. As usual, any of my opinions are quite objective.

Not to derail the thread but the twin-charger setup is kind of ingenious the way they routed everything. The turbo (which looks tiny) feeds directly into the supercharger inlet. I was always curious how well that would work and how efficient the S/C would be at compressing the already compressed air, but apparently works well enough. Have to lose the A/C though so I'm not sure they will make this as a production kit.

Are you saying the new HKS charger has less parasitic drag than the Rotrex?

Yes and no lol, it has less parasitic drag at lower rpms. The transmission is designed to transfer all of its rotating force to the impeller once there is enough centrifugal force. Sorta like an oldschool brake drum. At least that is how it is explained by @motokev in that post.

EDIT: ^^^ I made a stupid typo
