No mid-cycle refresh for 2016?

I'm increasingly pessimistic that there will be a 2016 MY mid-cycle BRZ/GT86/FR-S refresh with either new front/rear fascias, significant suspension upgrades, or (most disappointingly) any engine power bump. The reason's pretty simple: there have been no sightings of any mules or cladded prototypes running anywhere in the world other than that one racing prototype sited on the Ring a few months ago. The fact that about 9 months before production would have to start for a summer 2015 release no production testers have been spied at all is very discouraging.

This line of thought was triggered by seeing this today: a prototype of the refreshed 2017 Fusion that has already been spotted.

I'm no expert on testing protocols but my sense from following the major blogs is that pretty much any major re-do gets caught by the spy photogs many months before the car is even announced. Really hope I'm wrong on this!

Why would they need a test mule for any of the items you listed?

Suspension upgrades? Do you need a camo clad test mule to test those? It could be on a twin right now and no one would be the wiser. Same with a power upgrade to the fa20...

The fact is, just because you don't see something in Camo does not mean they are not testing. Hiding in plain sight is an old adage that comes to mind.

No, I personally do not think there will be any kind of power upgrade or suspension upgrade for MY 16, hopeful yes, but i'll believe it when I see it.

I did not say they needed to be testing camo clad - just that no prototypes of any type have been seen out running. These are given away by things other than camo - extra sensors attached to the wheels or body, extra antennae on the roof, testing equipment seen in the cabin, different wheels, tires, exhausts, new engine notes.... even running with known testing plates or on manufacturer test days at the track. Spy photogs are pretty good at sniffing these out.

The MY15s just hit the streets. Wouldn't it be bad for sales to have a totally revamped 86 on the road already?

They can only screw it up. Japanese "refreshes" usually mean uglier bumpers/taillights (2009 RX8 anyone?), and the suspension/bushings can only get softer. You would think though that after 2.5 yrs of production they would have fixed the fuel pump chirping, squeaking TO bearing, squealing windows, and taillights that fill with moisture. No such luck.

The U.S. won't see significant changes until 2017 when the all new for 2018 model is released.

2015 is already refreshed like others have said as Toyota was testing the new setup all over Europe and Australia for over a year.

I don't want more power if it means lowering the redline.

Sounds like OP needs another new iPhone.

There are multiple Toyota 86 test cars that have not been on the public roads yet. None of them had new body work but they did have different power trains. And no, I do not know if they will make it into production.
