Oh nooo, Mr Bill... not another 24 hrs race!

For die-hard race fans there's another 24-hour race coming up this weekend at Nurburgring. The entry list includes 1 V3 class and 9 SP3 class FT86s. Here are the teams, cars and number of entries:

SP3 class:
Gazoo Racing, GT86 (1)

V3 class:
Toyota Swiss Racing, GT86 (2)
Dörr Motorsport GmbH, TMG GT86 Cup (4)
MSC-Rhön e.V. i. ADAC, TMG GT86 Cup (1)
Pit Lane - AMC Sankt Vith, GT86 (1)
Richter Lutz, BRZ (1)

My recollection is V3 is pretty close to stock and SP3 allows some mods. If anyone's up for it, live streaming will be available. Hopefully this race will have a better outcome than Le Mans!

Yep, what are the best ways to watch this in the US. I was fortunate to have Fox Sports 1 and 2 this weekend, and I watched probably 20 out of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

There should be the Lexus LFA also I think.

24 Hrs of Nurburgring details

Here's the official web page. Near the bottom you can download a pdf with the "attendance list" (yes Gazoo Racing has two LFAs and there also are are some Lexus IS Fs and even a Toyota Corolla):
http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/events...hour-race.html

Here's one site with streaming:
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/n24.php

I haven't streamed this race before so I don't know what the best way is.

Excuse me for a bit OT but I took a look around Gazoo's website and I'm very interested in what's under the hood of the 86:

I see a lightweight battery, a catch can, an oil cooler, an interesting looking center mount air box, hood pins, what appears to be cooling for the injector driver ECU, some modifications to the ABS brake lines, camber plates, and a painted OEM manifold.

Is that the cooler to the right of the fuse box cover (looking at that picture)? If so, that's an interesting piece. Wonder what led to putting that in.

Yep. My guess is that it was getting hot during a long endurance stint and was failing. 24 hours of racing will find anything and everything that can go wrong. Ask Audi about their turbochargers, haha.

True. I've never heard of that piece failing, but you're right that 24 hrs of racing is a different animal.

I was thinking it might have to do with getting some cooling over the coil pack on cyl 1 since that seems to be a weak link.

It just amazes me that in Europe they can run basically stock engines 24 hours and win while in the US no one can even compete in a sprint format race at the professional level. The only FR-S professional competitive cars are drift and TT neither of which run for more than a few minutes at a time. Even the Scion FR-S GTS car in Pirelli World Challenge almost never last more than a couple minutes.

Where is the US road race team that will pick up the gauntlet and race this car?

I don't know what those idiots at Robert Stout Racing are doing that is causing them to be unable to finish a race. I wonder who was in charge of tuning their TRD supercharged FR-S. Last I heard they are running an EJ motor in that car now. It would be nice to see the BRZ/FR-S compete in the Continental series.

Or in the new TCA class at Pirelli World Challenge.

The ECU cooling certainly looks interesting.

I suspect a new/different intake manifold. Firstly, a race team doesn't paint a part under the hood for no practical reason. Also the shape of the manifold looks slightly different, in particular the removable plastic cover seems gone but the lettering is still there.

Another thing that caught my eye was the lack of a strut tower bar. Either it was deemed unnecessary or banned by regulations?

Edit: Another photo:
