I've done that with my old FWD Corolla on one mount. Got tired of replacing the tearing stock rubber so cut two plates of steel the shape of the rubber and welded to the mount. I can't recommend it, I didn't care about the comfort, but it instead ripped the mount bolts out of the bellhousing! Cracked the bellhousing and deformed the brackets attached to it.
I've since fabricated mounts using solid polyurethane and tubing, more commonly used for suspension rod ends. Some give is good.

don't go solid, get poly or hardened rubber. I have group N mounts on my 04 WRX and it transfers a lot of vibration into the car. Solid would be rough, and the group n helped with the feel.

Well, at least "I" thought it was funny ......

While we are at "nailing things down", not only weld the engine to the frame, weld the transmission and differential to the frame ...... and drop the suspension down onto the bump stops.

Now, the non-farm boy young-ens will have an idea of what it's like to ride on an empty, steel wheeled hay wagon, down a wash board lane ......
