People like you are usually the ones that endanger the lives of others on the street. Relax hero, your driving a ecobox "sports" car with a 200hp lawnmower engine in the winter. Not a F1 car. Save it for the track

Hopefully he doesn't take someone else with him. I had a family member who wasn't so lucky.

Holy thread necromancy, Batman--I mean, the information is still good, but those comments were made ALMOST A YEAR AGO, and the "DR 86" douchenozzle hasn't been on since June...

I can get it for 85/tire before taxes so its super tempting but I have seen lots of people swear by continentals wintercontact or blizzaks and that makes me feel slightly inferior on my choice LOL. Any opinions?
I had the Sailun Ice Blazers on my 335i for one season, and they weren't bad at all! Had no issues with them, never got stuck, and only sold them because I was in a financial bind in the spring and needed quick cash on the spot. I ended up getting Blizzaks for the next season after that simply because a good deal fell in my lap, otherwise I would have gotten the Sailun again. For the price, I thought they were great.

This is my 3rd winter with my Firestones, and I'm very happy with them.

You aren't wrong but at the same time, that's not the entire truth either. Any properly rated snow tire will outperform an all season or summer tire by a huge margin.

When you start comparing snow to snow on the other hand, that's like comparing track tire to track tire and the question becomes how hard will you be pushing it and in what conditions? Slush? Dry cold tarmac? Ice? Some folks swear by their Hakkas but for TO conditions, an X-Ice would be better since we deal with ice and slush more often than true deep snow.

I do agree for sure, any snow tire is better than summer / all seasons.
Yes you can certainly start to break things down by performance in each category. Mine are just an ordinary everyday general purpose winter tires. Work well for everything but is not outstanding at any one in particular. They are also the ones that most Ontario Police forces use so although "cheap" they must have something going for them.

I've had walmart tier winter tires before. They worked just fine. For the most part, I don't think you need super hardcore winter tires for SWO

I've heard a lot of Police forces use the Firestone WinterForces as well. What is your car wearing?

GT Radial Ice pros (made in USA not the Indonesia made ones). They are NOT a "performance" winter tire. They are heavy, noisy, truck like and ugly as sin but damn they will walk through any winter conditions thrown at you. Oh and they were as cheap as dirt for me since the place does all the work for the RV sales place my wife works at. There were two St Thomas cruisers waiting to get them put on when got mine and the guy said they do about a hundred area police cars a year. This is my third year with them and I could not be happier. Nobody that complains about noise should even think it though since it does sound like you are dragging a bag of cats under the car when it is warm and dry out.

They ain't purdy I tells ya:

Purdy ain't the game plan for winter, so don't worry too much about it.

Check out the WinterForce; the shoulders of the tires literally have little mountains cut into them. They look so zany and aggressive and, as you put it, "truck like", but I love the look. As I said in a previous post, it makes it look like a rally car.

They're pretty noisy too, though. But again, all in the interest of safety.
