Porche boxer vs Subaru boxer
So I am not knowledgable on this boxer engine technology. I understand the basics of boxers. So here's the question? Porsche boxers are more potent so to speak and H6. Besides the difference in displacement and bigger motor what kind of technology differs the two.

It's not so much the tech, as the target application. Subaru's are semi-economy cars. Even the top STI's are built to a quite much lower price point than a 911. Given the same budget there would be little difference I think.

So pretty much where and how much money each company wants to put in R&D. obviously more money in r&d the better the product and more expensive the ride that powerplant pushes...so this is where i am going with this...on what i know porsche makes the superior boxer motors, i havent search this yet but will now...what and when was the last somewhat modern 4 banger boxer engine FI or NA used by porsche.

Porsche has been relentless with boxer six engines. Last boxer 4 I believe was in the 914... Mid 70's
924, 944, 968 were all I4. Boxster, Cayman: boxer 6. |

Porsche certainly has far surpassed the finest motor Subaru has ever made based on all the factors one would analyze in engines.
But this does not mean that some of Subaru's powerplants are not better than some found in Porsches. Given they are not of the same quality in the marks lineup. The EJ22 (Turbo 4) from Subaru's 22b made 345hp 235tq (1998) The 2.9 (Flat 6) from Porsche's Boxster makes 255hp 214tq (2011) |

Porsche's engines generally implement higher tech components and design, but like everyone has said, at a higher price point. The intake cam variable phasing and intake lift, direct injection, individual cylinder knock feedback loop, fully forged rotating assembly, coated pistons, and dry-sump oiling all cost money. Factor in the relatively low production and brand image and voila, price point achieved.

Not sure it is fair to compare a turbo vs. NA engine. Porsche's new 2.5L NA 4 will make more power than the EJ22. But obviously there is a 13 year gap as far as technology goes.

They can be very smooth.
One day I was walking past the Local Subaru dealership. They had been washing the cars and a few had there bonnets up. So thought I would go have a look at these brand new Legacys... Some being the turbo Models. I could only hear what sounded like a wee tick sound. I suddenly realised the motor was running. I could only tell it was running because the pulleys were moving. I put my hand on top of the motor and felt no vibration at all. |
