That's an FRS fuel tank size, approximately, that's pretty damned big, that's not going to fit behind one seat in a Miata or any other reasonably designed car, and that's a relatively small tank. Most cars hold more like 15-16 gallons, and my truck does 32.

Also gas is about 6.3 lbs/gallon, not 8.3 lbs/gallon like water. Water is denser. Remember, oil floats on water.

My '77 911s has the filler on the drivers side, so did the 993. About a 22 gallon tank up front.

My 914 you had to open the hood.

A lot of quasi science being applied to filler sides.
The side mostly just depends on the main market. RHD cars get it on the right. LHD cars get it on the left. It is supposed to be more practical for the people in the main market of the car. It really is as simple as that.
Personally I liked the old days when it was hidden in the middle even if they were a pain in the ass.

My Chevelle was like that. These were my favorites.

I was really hoping OP would return and deliver 3 more walls of text.... and he did! I've come to respect and depend upon his automotive musings. I didn't know what to think about my car until he told me. I must join the Mazda forum now in order to keep up on his teachings.

Well I was just relieved that after his thread title, opening post and 5,000 references to torque dip that it wasn't "as bad as he thought it would be".

Totally man! New concepts like torque dip and weight transfer are just mind blowing. For my education, I did a 2000 to ~6000 rpm pull in 2nd gear Sunday morning. Didn't go beyond that as that would be quite uncivil in the street. I must say I couldn't feel the OP's stuttering forward weight transfer at all. Highly unlikely the TRD CAI has much to do with this. Somebody mentioned it earlier in this thread. Getting around *the* fundamental design flaw in the twin for a few hundred bucks? That got to be a fanboy's daydream. I just got it to impress the relatives. 94 octane gas probably has nothing to do with it either. Owner's manual says 91 octane is totally fine right?

In any case, really looking forward to be able to feel the crippling effect of the torque dip for myself. It could be hard work though, as the time spent with Corolla and Prius has probably dulled my sensitivity to car control cues beyond repair.

Anybody in the GTA interested in getting together and have a Torque Dip Party? After that, we can hop on the Bloor east to DVP north on ramp and cause some accident in the uphill merge. I hope Tcoat can come and join us

See you there around 19:00? I love causing accidents because my cars earth shattering torque dip basically makes you go into negative torque.

Love too but I am stuck on the Woodstock on ramp at the 401. It is only half a kilometer long so there is no hope I will be able to merge. A Geo Metro just had to go around me!

I've got both, chips in the hood, dip underneath.

If the Cali guys have a dip meet then it is almost guaranteed they would have chips.
