Midrange speaker in dash?

I just have the stock speakers connected to my amp and they seem pretty fine to me.

I wouldnt replace the speakers if you are going to run them off the headunit only. If you are going to amp them then go ahead.

I put 4" in the dash with a 1" tweeter, took some trimming but not too much. Running those plus a new 6.5" in the door off of the factory BRZ NAV and it sounds great.

Are you saying you had to trim the 4" to make it fit in the hole?

Well, i guess it depends on your speaker, as Flat Black said, he had to trim, which he would mean from the plastic in the hole, which wouldn't surprise me.
Some speakers say they are a certain size, but need a bigger cutout.

I have pulled out 10in subs, that seem to float in the cutout, and put other 10in subs that needed me to make the hole bigger.


I guess what i should ask is, what do you plan on putting in there, are you replacing all the speakers? or are you just wanting to add a 4in speaker?

If you are replacing them all, are you putting in a 3 way setup just cause you can?
How much do you want to spend?

Personally, if you haven't had years of experience with 3 way setups, i wouldn't use them, for two reasons.
1: they are very hard to set up correctly
2: price.

for that you would get some very good two way splits, but you would get some average three way splits all because you are splitting that money over 6 speakers instead of 4.
The cheapest 3 way splits i would buy would be Crescendo's 7B's which RRP at $799 http://www.ozbliss.com/products_cres...s_7B-3Way.html

These actually sound fantastic! but you would want a good quality amp and head unit to get the most of them.

Personally, I will be running a 2 way set up, a set of CDT splits, 6.5in midbass and 1in tweeter.
The tweeter may be replaced with a large format tweeter such as a Vifa ring radiator as i used to use, which is about 4in in diameter..

Anyway, may have gotten a bit carried away there

No I think he explained fairly clearly that it may not be the case.

All 4" hole jokes aside - a couple of people have stated very specifically in this thread that speakers can be different sizes even though they are nominally 4" your mileage may vary.

no, you will need to custom mount them and possibly trim areas unless they are very compact.

When i stop being the laziest man alive, and also stop spending money on my pushy, i will install my stereo and take heaps of photos and post them up, and any issue i find etc.

My stereo will be fairly basic, New headunit, front speakers, 5 channel amp and 10in sub.

I dont think any decent 4" will fit without any trimming. I am running the Focal 100 KRS up there which are a slim and fairly small 4" speaker and trimming needed to be done.

Its not a lot of trimming though, totally worth it IMO. Another option I was playing with was some Hertz HL70, which is a 3" and would need an adapter to fill the hole, but I decided to go with the larger Focals for a number of reasons.
