You probably didn't really get my allusion. You had an updated car with the new OEM exhaust manifold and a factory tune that didn't have the very rich AFRs at WOT. You didn't get the gains that a pre-17 MT car would get with a 1.3 stage tune. You will be lucky if you got half of the original gains (~15whp). I suppose you were aware that the first cars were not really 200ps cars, but yours was much closer to the catalog 205ps spec. I'm not sure how much happy you are now with the cosworth header, the testing with the different overpipes & exhaust and all the mess with the leaks and experimentation, but value for money looks that it wasn't really a very good decision. You should have gone with a supercharger from day one.

I think there were plenty of gains to be had. I'm not expecting a lot of power. Nor do I see it as a waste of money. I tailored the exhaust for the right sound I desired with power associated. Sure it was expensive to get the JDL combo front pipe and then turn around and buy the HKS, but it was well worth it. Originally Cosworth quoted the 1.3 on MY12-16 as 30 over stock at peak power. I know there were updates to the '17+, but don't try to convince me that it didn't net me even half of that. I'm not convinced that the 17+ manifold is that big of an improvement. I'd guess, with the slightly restrictive HKS piping, I'd only lose a few horses. At least that's what @Matt@Cosworth estimated. Either way, whether I gained the full 30, or just 5, I'm pleased with it. I had the supercharger before, and I loved it. As well, I'm not exactly in a position financially to risk it right now if the engine grenades (not that I suspect that would happen given the R&D behind the tuning).

No, I'm not trying to convince you that the 17+ manifold provided that much. Most of the gains was because of the better factory tune and much less cause of the manifold. I just think that it would be much better in a +'17 MT car to go directly with the supercharger, unless you were planning to get one anyway and just wanted to have a good starting point first with the better exhaust.

Oh ok gotcha. I thought you were trying to be pretentious
Right now I just wanna start simple and enjoy the exhaust. I do want to go with a supercharger, but lately I've been pretty content with how it is NA. But I can allude to new tires coming in the near future and more STI tid bits

The alternator looks really close to the SC pulley, any issue?

It's just the oprical illusion. That bolt is miles away from the pulley which lines up with the alternator pulley.

Hey Weederr33,

I am planning to do the OEM forester style oil cooler but the throttle body with the Cosworth SC is near the firewall now. Any issue with that?

Where did you purchase your OEM Forester Style complete kit?

Neds? $230 USD Any missing parts?
https://www.nedautoparts.com/product...oem-subaru-brz

Cusco $438 USD - I don't mind paying $200 extra for a kit that is proven and well engineered
https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/44718

I also want to add an oil pressure gauge. Did you guys do it via the sandwich plate or the gallery plug? Any pros and cons for each location?

Thanks

Hi!

You could still do the throttle body route in theory since the plugs are both blocked off (the one on the block and the pipe in the rear). That is the way I did it. I'm not sure it was that effective, as I have read on the OEM Forester thread that the TB route is rather restrictive. But then again, the oem version isn't that effective beyond normal street driving and some spirited.

The kit I ended up going with was the NED. But I will give a warning they are horrible at communication and take forever to ship. I would simply find the parts on any subaru site and then find the proper hose piping size. The Cusco uses the coolant lines from the radiator, though. I cannot comment on the oil pressure gauge.

I have a defi oil pressure guage and it measures at the oil sandwich plate after the cooler as it goes back into the block.

Highly recommended if you track and use R comps. Keep an eye on it on longer corners to see if you starve the sump pickup.

Great and thanks for your info. I have a set of Nankang AR1 and do plan to track the car. Did you install any other things to prevent oil starvation?

People on the forum said not to worry about it too much but I am not 100% sure.

Thanks!
