Now when you buy one of these cars and you pay $5-6k + to add a turbo or supercharger you are in Mustang GT or Camaro V8 price territory. If it had a factory turbo you can bump the boost or even get a bolt in replacement turbo for far less than the cost of doing it all for scratch.

IMO opinion the reason the BRZ/GT86 is as hamstrung as it is it that Subaru doesn't want to steal any thunder from the WRX and STI. I figure Toyota probably paid for the development and Subaru get a free car they sell and make a little money on the side, but they don't want to kill their main line up.

IMO these cars are going to be like FD RX7s 10 yrs down the road where there are more with swaps than with an FA20 in them.
For them to do a factory turbo, or supercharger, the whole engine and drivetrain would need to be revised.

Granted, some rods wouldn't be a war stopper, but a revised gear box most definitely would.

I believe, take this with a grain of salt, that a factory boosted twin with a drivetrain to suit would add around 10k$ to the cost, at least.

Simular to a Impessa vs wrx, or wrx vs sti.

Well, hells bells, there, Wayne, the mid 50s TF, wernt made to go around cones. It was made to take a proper lady, wearing a bonnet, for a ride through the countryside, on a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon, to have a picnic lunch.

Get the picture -

This is exactly what I tried to explain to someone and they totally denied it and said it was super easy and cheap for Subaru to do.

i guess technically the motor and turbo setup is super easy, as they already developed the fa20f for a lot of other subaru's.

they would just need to change, well, everything, about the 86's engine bay to make it fit...

have you never seen this interview?

the point of the car is not speed. it never was. it's not a highway cruiser.

the original 86 had the same methodology. this version continued the tradition. it was never intended to buck the trend.
