Just had 5W30 best LiquiMoly put in along with LiquiMoly diff and manual gearbox oils too. So much smoother! Car sounded like a tractor before.

No issues from Royal Purple 5w 30 racing. I have changed the oil for each round which is around 3 hours of running time 5500 to 7600 rpm. I do think if you track your car from time to time then 5w 30 is the go, if not then the rec 0w 20 is fine.

I would suggest if you love your car then get a 7500k oil and filter done between the book service. If you do that then no probs.. it would be a bugger in two years to find long services = broken cams or spun bearings like some big k services have produced.

I also think if you change your oil every 7.5k then the argument is hypothetical ??

So I've read this thread and many others and the "101" series on Bob is the Oil Guy.

From what I can read "other than it depends" is that for this particular car:

1. Normal daily / spirited driving = any fully synthentic 0w-20 oil will do
2. For track use ideally you monitor oil pressure and pick one that gives approx 10 psi for every 1,000 rpms.

Has anyone actually done point 2 and got an oil pressure reading with 0w-20 or any other oil for a car being flogged?

sorry for reviving an old thread.
my 2020 brz manual seems changed - and checking parts sites online it seems like 2017+ vehicles have a different set of optional oil weights. i'm not sure what the reason is behind removing 5w-30 and 5w-40 as optional for the vehicle and sticking to 0w-20 (5w-20).

thoughts?
