Doubt it. Looks like those two columns are unrelated. one column, designates top selling cars in their respective classes, and the other column lists the top markets in which those classes sell.
So:

The number one selling sports car: Mustang
The number one market for sports cars in general: USA

etc.

i have to admit it is a little surprising they went went with a hybrid, as opposed to a full electric, concept especially since the rumors & hype around the "hybrid" supra have long been quashed. i'm still not convinced toyota & subaru will want to invest in anything beyond na for the twins. time will tell who knows, maybe as a result of the partnership with mazda, toyota & subie will create a hcci flat 4

Since when? Motor Trend reported a Hybrid option like last month, and rumors are still suggesting 2 different kind of automatic transmission options. I can't imagine why you would need 2 different automatics unless you had a Hybrid drivetrain as an option also.

OK, that makes more sense now. It just so happens that the 86 sold enough so it looks like the Italy number beside it could be a subset. If you look at the top numbers (which I didn't) it becomes more clear that the columns are independent.

well that's because motor trend is probably just as clueless as everyone else. come on, this is low hanging fruit..they copied over the same powertrain & trans from the LS 500/500h, 10 speed for the TT V6 and CVT + 4 speed auto for the V6 hybrid. do you think they went through this trouble of partnering with bmw just to use their own engine and leave the inline 6 history behind? i haven't been for this partnership as to me toyota is getting the short end of the stick but there is no denying every single video featuring the bmw supra's exhaust note hints that it is just the same inline 6 that the new z4 will use. and supposedly on the mk5supra forums someone attended the recent "secret" supra gathering and mentioned:

One thing I didn't even ask was if there was a 4cyl and 6cyl version, but considering all we did was discuss BMW inline 6s I find it odd that there is a 4cyl.

Perfect. I went into it with one mind set and didn't separate the two columns.
Actually that is even more interesting since in the first quarter they almost all dropped but the 86 skyrocketed world wide.

I am looking at 86 US sales. 2017 sales are less than half of 2013 sales. Even a model refresh in 2017 did not recover the sales numbers relative to 2016. Toyota should be evaluating the sinking sales. I wonder what they will do about this. And I am afraid 500 cars sold in the US may not be worth maintaining an assembly line.

Anyone know the total number of 2016 MY FR-S's produced? Or where I can get that number? Thanks!

Aren't the BRZ/86 assembled at the same plant? That means they sold almost 1000 units for the month of September in just US/Canada and not accounting for the rest of the world. Doesn't sound terrible for a niche car that's over 5 years old. Does anyone have the same statistics for the Miata/Fiata?

Either way, I'd be surprised if Toyota decides to make a 2nd generation 86.

My standard response to this:
Sales numbers are only part of the equation and as a stand alone stat they don't really tell us much. If they made 1,000 and sold 500 then it is a problem. If they made 500 and sold them all it is a home run. We know they are not looking for Corolla numbers out of the car so 500 a month could be right in line with their business plan.

That is the biggest question there is for this thread. Unfortunately those numbers seem to be tightly guarded. Did all but a handful get sold? Is there a secret lot with several thousand sitting on it without homes to go to? Without knowing how many were built the sales numbers are almost meaning less as far as the bottom line at Toyota is concerned.

You are right; they are built by Subaru at the same plant. I think you can combine the sales to balance the cost of assembly line.

Is that standard that a manufacturer won't say how many of a certain vehicle they produce?

They are made side by each one by the other.
