For some of us track racing we may want a smaller turbo or hybrid to start hitting boost as low as 2500rpms fyi. Big numbers are good for a straight line sometimes and good for the tire companies. Great job though.:happy0180:

Thats why we have a smaller turbo package. I could make plenty of boost on the smaller turbo w/ small turbine housing. We can make this one come on much earlier, but are concerned w/ low rpm torque damaging things.

edited, question answered above.
I figured it would spool faster with E85 and high compression. I thought 250wtq would cross at about 4200rpm or so. Is there anything you guys plan on doing to help with mid-range? What size AR is this running anyway, the .82 tial? This thing is making really good power. Can anyone enlighten me on the response of the disco potato on this engine? |

So happy you guys are doing this and sharing the information along the way. Keep going. I will need to add some power to this car, that is next year and hopefully my CEL repair will be complete.
I won't need this much power, but still it is nice to see it being made. Chris |

Tossing some overly simplified numbers around, this engine should have died in a catastrophic shower of oil and shiny bits of metal by now. The cylinder pressures make a Stage 2 STI engine look like a lightweight. And the RPMs shame every Subaru motor, including the JDM EJ207 with its 8K redline.
If this were an EJ motor, the crank would have seized in its bearings from lack of oil, the ring lands would have said goodbye in spectacular fashion, and the connecting rods would have started looking like limp pasta. But it's still running. I think Toyota and Subaru have been holding back with this engine. |

When I saw the lifters, a tear rolled down my cheek. I was suspicious this engine was designed for high revs. Everything I thought was going to happen with this car is happening.
I figured the engine would make big power factory. 500hp crank on stock block is awesome. I said the transmission would hold power better than expectations, and it has exceeded many expectations based on its "medium torque capacity" rating. And I figured high rpms were going to be easy. Not because of subaru's rep, but because Toyota/Yamaha developed the heads. This motor has been a beast so far. I don't see why 400whp wouldn't be pretty reliable. But for me, 300-320whp is just fantastic. |

Wait, did you say 8800rpm?
What the f***... By the way, considering how the torque is f***ing insane now, maybe you guys could do a pull in 6th gear instead of 5th to give an idea of the turbo's transient response, since the engine rpms are probably climbing a bit faster than the turbo can spool to reach maximum boost at the lower rpm. |

That's crazy the figures you're getting out of a virtually stock FA20, surely it's on the verge of going ka-boom? 20psi, 8000rpm and more than double the factory horsepower on stock internals and gearbox is pretty impressive! To be honest I wasn't expecting more than 300-350bhp out of this little beasty (which I would have been quite happy with).
Assuming everything ends in tears around the 500bhp mark on the stock internals, how much extra juice can typically be squeezed out of an engine by going fully forged? Would 600-650bhp be a reasonable underpants soiling, squeeling like a schoolgirl figure? |
